Since I've had time to play with trains again now that I'm out of school, I decided to attack the most glaring fault of my layout: lack of a back drop. Here is a look at some early experimentation with a canvas drop cloth ironed smooth and tacked to the wall:

Dude! That is a most excellent solution! Covers the wall and window in one slick shot. I would definately continue it arond ;) Reminds me of backdrops from high school theatre. I really think it's a great idea for those of us with non-permenent layouts.
This week I've been trying my hand at white lettering decals. It came out fairly straight (not bad for a first try).

This is a Deluxe Inovation dimi data deep ribbed woodchip gon. Although I like the results when I compare it with other cars I think the letters are over powering.
I think I will try a non bold smaller font.

    John:

You did a nice job on the decaling of those cars.

    John,

I would stay with this BALOU LINE. If you weather the cars it looks no longer so hard.

I have been away from the Photos for a while, but I see the high quality of work shown here has not fallen.

My contribution this week is three shots of an undecorated Athearn wood sided caboose. I think I got the trucks right in the last of the three shots as to weathering. I Dullcoated the trucks after the gray and the rust and then used oily black to cover the boxes.

End view with very small decals applied.

    MKT Boxcar...Almost

Here is a thread on the prototype used for ammo loading in McAlister, Oklahoma:

Here is the correct paint scheme on an InterMountain 40 foot boxcar:

I tried to find decals for N scale and could not. I purchased some HO scale decals, but could not get letters large enough. Perhaps letters this large would be masked and painted in HO scale. Here is my spliced decals on a Micro Trains standard 40 foot boxcar. Still need to weather; interesting project. I will just call it a variation in paint schemes. :)

I've just been playing with some Atlas and Kato bits to come up with a Dash 8. I haven't finished decalling yet - I ran out and still need to do the handrails, trucks + details.

These are munitions bunkers built from bits and pieces from the scrap box. In the foreground, a workcrew wonders what to do with the switch machine from another world.

Didn't take long for me to put my new Athearn RTR GP35s to work. Here one heading an eastbound hotshot thru Monett, MO on my HO scale Spring River Sub. You can't see it, but the '35 is riding on Alco trucks from a traded-in FA1.

Behind this hotshot, a westbound manifest awaits a green signal once the hotshot clears the west switch.

I know I posted this one before, but I need to learn how to post pics with the new form.... [IMG]

It appears to be easier!! But I DO miss the old "not worthy" gif. So MANY of the examples of work shown here deserve it!

All your old friends can still be found on this page.

Just copy the image location and post it as you do a photo.
I believe they may one day be added to the selection already in the new software.
