Well this isn't gonna be what you wanted but: 1. Its a bachmann 2. It doesn't have number boards 3. Wrong road number, Santa Fe only had one GP40 - the road number was 2964. proto shot: Santa Fe's Lone GP40 If it's to do with the decoder then I missed it eh :tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin: cheers Alister
Thanks. All I used was some rust colored paint, an alcohol/black acrylic paint wash and a small brass bristle scrub brush. Here's a close-up of some of the weathering:
Finally got up the courage to truly attack my Atlas 60-ton Shay and make it more 'eastern'. I'd already converted it to coal, but this was the 'saw the lady in half' stunt with the cab, and a lot of hand filing: Its amazing how much a cab modification changes the looks.
Heres some pics from a while back when I worked on this loco. I made the forward and rear ditch lights functional using a nce d13srj decoder.
Nearly a warbonnet Here's a warbonnet wannabe: Still in the paintshop ATSF E3 nearing the application of the Red Warbonnet paint :tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin:
What kind of paint makes that shiny, slick finish like that? It really looks nice. I hope you can post other pictures as the work progresses. This type of paint and masking is one of the hardest to do, IMHO. Thanks for these pictures and the info.
First, love the NS units...man I am tempted to start modeling that line Second, the "warbonnet wanna be" is very interesting. I agree with Flash...let us know what the paint is and also keep us up to date on what looks like an excellent model!
Alister: What kind of paint will you be using to paint over the plating? I tried this technique when building model trucks using a translucent lacquer finish but it was very hard getting it to adhere to the plated surface without running. The plating looks great. Looking forward to the pics when it's done.
Another paint job with my second 25-ton. It's from Grandt Line. This will be the engine for my scrap yard. Wolfgang
I'll be trying to mist some light coats of Modelflex over it, if that doesn't work too well I'll spray Tamiya primer over it (lacquer based) then the Modelflex.
Hey Flash, I'm using Alclad2 Stainless Steel shot over Tamiya black TS-14 (lacquer), gives a high gloss
Wolfgang, very nice. I tried building one of those years ago, and the mechanism was just awful. How do yours run?
