Well, I got the most important decorations up. My little tree dedicated to hanging all my Hallmark ornaments on. A couple loops of Unitrak around the bottom to run some trains on and it is ready for the holiday.

    Loverly, Russel. Ya gotta...cuz....ya gotta.

However, for the first time in a decade, no Christmas train for our house. We needed the room due to large hosting functions. So, I show this week another Pennsy Power shot, this time the J1 takes a siding so that fast varnish can roar past.

Nice shots, guys. Crandell I like your rusty siding, and I wish I could run a train as long as that, Mike.

    Per this other thread:

    http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?92144-Trix-U30CG/page4

Here's my work so far, inspired by Randgust, to
put a N scale Minitrix U30CG shell on Kato U30C mechanism, and to then
update the shell's paint, handrails. Work in progress. I have got the body
to fit on the shell, ground down the front
of the trucks, ground out required areas inside the shell especially on the
ends, painted over the too big original "Santa Fe" with the
Polyscale Silver, put Micro-Scale 60-188 "Santa Fe" on, have started to paint
over the too-big black and yellow stripes,
Pactra RC enamel yellow on the ugly too-big handrails:

Other than the things listed above, this is still the stock Minitrix paint.

More to come, to fix the fuel tanks, more work with decals for the striping,
    body mount couplers, and more.

Thx again, Randgust, for the many tips. :)

    Happy Holidays, all!

Nice! I like comparison shots like these. One thing I noticed right away when I got my Rivarossi H-8, about a year after getting my BLI Y6b, is how massive the Alleghenies really were. They dwarfed the rather massive-in-ther-own-right Y Mallets. No wonder they needed three-axle trailing trucks!

I took a trip in the past week to Ohio for Railfair 2011, in Athens.

A man bought in this set of walthers and kato C&O coaches. He placed them behind my GP7 in the yard, I will admit, C&O colors look good next to Santa Fe's.

I like Flash's oil facility - I'll use that for inspiration!

I have something seasonal this week. Several months ago I was given a Lionel train which belonged to a friend's deceased husband when he was a child. It dates from 1935 according to the local hobby shop that worked a little magic to make it run better. The motor, gears, and drivers are a single unit that had me stumped. The reverser unit also has problems so we're limited to forward motion only which isn't a problem in a circle! I have more cars - another passenger car and a set of freight cars plus caboose. Next year I hope to have more track and to have it mounted perhaps on a couple of plywood or foam sheets that can be connected around the tree. The buildings are from a cast plaster Christmas village my wife painted many years ago. [IMG]

New CB&Q GP30, #974, pulls a small local freight through the town of Polo Illinois. A picture perfect snow fall of about 6 inches has fallen the night before and blanketed the area in white. The crew of #974 hastily swept the snow from the running boards. The train will head to Oregon IL to switch out a few cars before heading back to Savanna IL later this day. Taken in December, 1964.
