Back in the "old days" we N scale modelers were grateful for whatever weird locomotive that the manufacturers came up with. As long as it came decorated in our favorite paint scheme, we would buy it. However, there was one Frankenstein that came out in 1979, that gave us pause. TRIX, from Germany, took the boiler shell from the K4 Pacific and grafted it onto a German prototype 2-10-0 chassis. The steam cylinders did not line up with exhaust steam pipes and the smoke stack and the pilot stuck out in front like a sore thumb. It was a good performing locomotive but just looked too bizarre. There were various fixes that folks came up with to remedy the problem. Here is one I came up with. The boiler shell from the Rivarossi Light Pacific lined up perfect with a few adjustments to the headlight bracket and the weights inside. I suppose some day I will have to cobble together a straight non-tapered boiler with tall stack and domes to turn it into a true "Russian" Decapod.
Here are some recently completed cars! Here is an Eastern Car Works Airslide Covered Hopper painted for American Refridgerator Transit. Co-Owned by the Missouri Pacific and the Wabash. I have shown both sides of the car as the MP & WAB heralds are switched, with the MP Herald closest to the B end of the car. I used Oddballs Decals to finish the car. Atlas Kaolin Tank car, painted light gray and lettered with Islington Station Products decals. Atlas 17600 Gal Corn Syrup Tank Car, painted black and lettered with Herald King Decals. Thanks for Looking! Rick J
Here's a few shots of a recently completed Bowser USRA Pacific. First shot is in her unpainted cast zamac and brass detail glory. Other shots are after painting and weathering as she works the branch line. There's a TCS decoder inside. But it still needs a front coupler! George V.
D&RGW 2-8-8-2 #3608 pauses at Summit to set the retainers for the trip down to Taylor Yard. In the background, Santa Fe train #19, the Super Chief, is making a brief station stop.
Beautiful work on here. No photo from me, but a short video taken with the micro cam rubberbanded onto a bulkhead flat. Heading back to the yard and meeting a short freight on the way. Mike
Just got the new C&O "Chessie" billboard car set from MicroTrains, so thought I should take some photos of them. I haven't done too many photos of this section of the layout in a while, looking at the engine yard, and the town folks basking in the park watching the trains. A Santa Fe SD-26 is pulling a special consist of C&O boxcars past the JACALAR engine facility and passenger yard Looking up past the roundhouse towards the special C&O cars. I don't have Helicon Focus or other programs like that (and my current PC wouldn't support it well). Looking across the engine facility A good view of all 5 of the new C&O Advertising Billboard cars
And, one more, for fun, over on the area of the layout currently being worked on A 2-6-0 Mogul pulls an excursion train across the RR Overpass, above an SP Overnight Express Freight. The Morning Daylight is seen in the background. Lots of vehicular traffic can be seen on River Road.
