I'm on Business travel in Boston this week, so no chance to upload and no chance to see any trains. So it will be one from the Archives. April 25th 2010, the Holstein painted POTB #101 GP9 rusts in Peace at the Port's engine yard in Tillamook. This is right next to the Blimp hanger.
From my archives. A few summers ago, my favorite depot. This building was fire damaged and partially collapsing. A group of determined individuals stepped up and completely restored it, inside and out. The work they accomplished is simpy unreal. The Milwaukee Road, (South) Cle Elum, Washington:
Another shot of the Box Canyon Dam from recent rail fan ride , taken before getting on the train which runs over this trestle .
I've always wanted to catch a train coming south, from the overlook at the right end of this view. But never seem to be in that area at the right time.
That would be from this shot, hard to catch the POVA runner , one would have to listen to dispatch and then sit there all day on switch day. the two pics on the right as it disapears into the trees just below the overlook . Next July 4 Down River Days week or Oct any weekend, you could catch the rail fan . That'd be cool to catch a 4-6-2 or such going across !!!
Here's another from the archives. This was most likely out at Gales Creek, when the trolley park was out there. The car is an interurban from B.C. This shot would have been late 80s or early 90s. I remember going out there with my grandparents and there were some folks there doing a story for one of the TV stations. The guys could not find the reverser key for this. I looked around and reached up above where the motorman would stand and sure enough it was on the ledge. I asked, "oh, you mean this?" as I slid it onto the controller. For those who don't know, a reverser key for most of these trolleys looks a bit like a goofy wrench. Without it, however, you cannot operate the trolley as you cannot put it in forward or reverse (relative to your location on the car). The man in the picture is my Grandpa. I promise to not keep posting just photos of him, but right now since I haven't been out shooting this is what I have.
SOO LINE grain hopper at UP's North Yard. ICG grain hopper at UP's North Yard Eastbound autorack train passing Clarence, IA. Westbound coal train passing old feed mill in Calamus, IA
Not many of these crossbucks left. At least this one is still standing-in Comanche, IA. Eastbound Stack train about to cross the Mississippi River onto the Geneva Sub to Chicago. Northbound CP Clinton local heading to Savanna to drop off its interchange traffic.
Looks like it is essentially abandoned in place? Those appear to be barracades from an easement that no longer is in effect?
I worry some about this engine. The fellow who spearheaded it's preservation and care was lost some years ago now. I am not certain if anyone is looking after it.
