Ugh, no time to grab a picture. Maybe later today.

Job has you on the run, again? You need to buy one of my patented 25 hour days, so you'll have a free moment or two for hobbies.

Well, I guess I can put something up quick to see if things will get going. An empty grain train out of Galveston about to cross the Sunset Route in Rosenberg.

I had hoped to make a dash out to the BNSF today. It was to be sunny, instead we've had rain. Yet another accurate forecast.

Of course, "weather forecaster" is one of those jobs where being correct seems beside the point all too often...

Well Ken, just go for it. The trains don't care if they are all wet. I think the BNSF even likes it when you photograph them in the rain. ;)

I have often railfanned in rain. But today the clouds have been low, fuzzy and dark. So anything I'd catch with my old camera would be just wasted tries, and $$$ gas.

The trucks are a little dirty looking but other than that, it looks pretty good.

Sure glad I'm not out there right now, railfanning. We've had a nasty lightning storm sitting on the town for almost an hour and a half. Dark, gloomy. :(

These machines were built to last. The Dash 2 line emphasized reliability and ease of servicing, and there's proof. They're like the GP9s - they'll never disappear.

Here are three shots made August 2014, not exactly this weekend, but who cares, they are train pictures. Right?

Eastbound double stack just came through Abo canyon and headed East to Mountainair, N.M.........

Next one, pacing another Eastbound double stack just leaving Mountainair. Doing 70mph at this slight downhill location..........

Finally, same Eastbounder leaving Willard, N.M., at approx 50mph. Had slowed for track work ahead of train. Most likely he will be in run 8 soon, not much between here and Clovis, N.M but flat land and Vaughn, and Fort Sumner.........................

One of the best places to watch trains, BNSF, is on Hwy 60 between Clovis, N.M. and Canyon, TX. Great deal of double track action.

Ooops, found one more in the Mountainair region. This is a totally Mexican grain train. All Ferromex hoppers (100), two units on point and one pusher, Westbound towards Abo canyon and then Belen..............

Any idea about the point of departure, border crossing location and point of destination for the Ferromex train?

    Dom,

I have no clue about the info you asked about. Since it was Westbound, my guess would be cross the border near Tucson, AZ or San Diego. Who knows. Actually, I suppose the entire train could have been leased to BNSF as locomotives get temporarily leased and the destination could be anywhere on the West coast. Maybe going to Long Beach for trans loading to ship ? ?

Sorry I can't answer your question.

I was fortunate to get this photo while the staff was preparing for the day's activities at the Didcot Railway Museum in England back in 2004.

Hank- Any ideas what "Y05" on the smokebox front represents? A scheduled train number?

Y05 is a train head code. Can't find what GWR used Y for, but other letters represent the type of train - freight, passenger, ballast, etc. The buffer beam states this particular loco is 5051, a Castle-class 4-6-0 named Earl Bathurst.
