The weather has been a little bizarre out here. Rain and humidity in May and June is just not normal at all. Thankfully, while the shops have been mostly quiet, there is still some work going on. This GP38-2 is shoving the AC4400 into the shops for some work.

From the US highway 83 bypass on the west side of Minot, a sweeping curve takes the CP Portal Sub towards Burlington, ND. During blue hour, an eastbound CP grain train rolls past the intermediate signal. Rokinon 14mm @ f/22.

Got another scanned oldie from the archives this week, and for once, it's not PM 1225. I don't remember the exact year, but it was railfans' weekend on Michigan's "other" steam operation, the 3 foot gauge Huckleberry Railroad near Flint. Railfans' weekend features all kinds of things that railfans love but that might not be of much interest to the general public including things like shop tours and a photo session. Although the light was not my friend at this time and location, this particular photo train featured an extremely rare doubleheader with Alaska RR 152 and Rio Grande 464, both not usually being in service at the same time.

The sunshine outside of my window has me thinking about one of my stops at Deer Lodge, Montana, to see this grand old gal:

Here you go, taken the same day as the above shot. Built in 1908, a year after the Belen Cutoff was completed. Mountainair is at the summit of the Cutoff. I thought it was pretty cool that the house track was still in place. There used to be a wye here to handle helpers.

Wow. That's neat that someone thought to string a section of catenary above. (y)

And the angry skies yielded three thunder claps and a dribble of moisture. So far, but tis sunny out just now. I guess we will see!

The final destination for the world biggest freight car. The scrappers have already dismantled her and are torching her to the ground.
