2 ex-ATSF Portland and Western GP39-2s wait for the call at the Albany Oregon Diesel facility May 1st, 2010.
Someone has a nice camera and knows how to use it. I do like the SF unit, but I am bias form being from socal.
What's not to like of the old Santa Fe? In a picture that could pass for 1999, here is the service rack most people see from Thirwell Bridge in Galesburg Illinois. Although badly faded, the heritage leaves little doubt to one viewing #512, a B40-8W. It arrived on the Santa Fe system in 1990. Amazing that in June of 2012 she not only still wears the Santa Fe name but her original number is intact. Sister unit, #546, also a B40-8W is sitting pretty in her H2 dress while #1848 a former BN SD40-2, brings up the rear in line.
End of summer last year. A BNSF V-train which originated in Portland, Oregon, is working eastward up the Rocky Mountain grade through Essex, Montana:
A small potion of video I took at Goose Fest 2012 that I just uploaded
Ex-CNW GP7 and ex-SBD GP16 at Simmons Feed facilities, Fairland, OK (on the BNSF Cherokee Sub), April 2006.
It is indeed- an SW10, rebuilt by UP from an older EMD switcher. UP did a bunch of 'em. They still have one on the roster, kept in Cheyenne for use hostling the heritage locomotive fleet and passenger cars.
Here's the info on TXGN 105:

Model: Rebuilt EMD SW10 Built As: WP 605 (SW9)

Serial Number: 16679 Order No: 4168

Frame Number: 4168-5 Built: 6/1952

Notes: Ex-WP

Other locos with this serial: UP 1273(SW10) TXGN 97(SW10) TXGN 105(SW10) WP 605(SW9) Nice catch, by the way!!
Keeping on the Portland & Western theme. It is pouring down on the Oregon coast as the Toledo Hauler arrives it it's namesake town with cars mainly for the mill. In order to make it over the coast range in even the best weather, the Hauler uses 2 GP39-2s and 2 GP40+slug sets. You can see all of them except the trailing GP40 here getting soaked. It's a mid september afternoon and you can see how the trees have added the the issues as leaves clog the air filter intakes. Given the rain and leaves, she likely had to double over the mountains which explains why she arrived in the afternoon. Sept 18, 2010
I'm guessing this is due to needing a serious brush cutting along that line, more than just falling leaves?
Ah, the Pacific Northwet in all its glory.....lol Sure do miss chasing the PNWR........neat railroad.
Here's a sunny-day shot of the PNWR in action: Somewhere between Albany & Eugene, catching a northbound rolling by.
