Here is another shot from the train show I set up at in San Antonio a month ago. My Southern Pacific Sunset Limited is passing through a town scene on one of the Santrak modules.
Foto Fun 9 4 05 Hi, all, With the holiday weekend, finally had a little time to put up some photos. As many of you know, I'm about 1/2 way through a probable 6 month project to upgrade the little 4' x 4' Santa Fe N scale Peavine Line Kato Unitrack with full ballast. Here's some progress shots. The ballasted Kato Unitrack in Prieta Canyon: Did some details on the interior of the tunnel: In preparation for doing the ballast on the front half of the layout, you can see the layout with the buildings/details cleared off, as well as the current state of things: Take care, all. Keep the folks in the US Gulf Coast in our hearts and prayers.
My latest project: The N scale ship building bug bit again. I've been a bit laid up with a bad cold, so I decided to spend a few hours browsing the Web, and came across the US Coast Guard's Active Class of cutters. They are 125 feet long, and served from 1929 well into the 1960s. That's a little over 9 inches long in N scale. I carved the hull out of a piece of oak, then glued styrene on it for the deck. There's a lot of sheer in the hull--the deck is curved from bow to stern. The superstructure is .040 styrene. ZOOM for full size
Last night (Friday) I had a few of the trainboard boys over. We operated some trains and basically chatted about Stens trip to the USA. Sten leaves today and will be meeting Flash on Monday night. Jasom brought his new beloved cab forward for us to admire. Sten operated his Wisconsin Central train which was a nice change from the Jenks Blue that now populates the layout. Gats now living back in Australia brough two of his custom painted Geeps for a run as well. And here is a familiar scheme, Jason purchased the SAR model from Grant Eastman recently it's a very impressive model. All in all it was a great night and good to catch up.
Another good Friday, Colonel. Nice looking trains, too. Always a success. Did you do any modeling? I am not running trains right now; doing some modeling. More GN (InterMountain) repaints: - [ September 02, 2005, 06:26 PM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Looks great Flash, we didnt do any modelling last night just ran some trains and chatted. We did discuss Stens visit to your house and Monday night and were wondering if you had the Cityrail Vest ready for Sten to operate the layout
I've packed a spare as I noticed last time someone visited that one of you wasn't wearing a vest - still in breach of NGE200. so next time you have a visitor, you'll both be ok in accordance with Railsafe Rules and Procedures. It's a used one though - keep having to divide S sets (silver trains) so it has a few grease stains - authentic!!!!
Russell Great start to the weekend! Cool looking train! Are those PA1s? John Sing The module looks great! Pete Cool project, can’t wait to see more of it! Paul Great photos! The cab forward unit looks sweet! Flash Great looking cars!
Recently I finished assembling several kits and weathering them, thus tripling my reefer fleet. Well as a result here is a little something I call reefer madness:
Tom, Excellent weathering on those cards, maybe one day you could do a workshop (topic) on your style?
Tom, great variety of reefers! And the weathering is superb! Yeah, tell us how you do it - my cars are still all clean
Tompm: I, too, would like a clinic on the weathering. I did see your post here, though. Tompm said: I used craft paints. I first went over the cars with wash made from Folk Art Licorice and blue windshield washer fluid. I put it on heavy and then wiped it off with a paper towel. Then I applied another wash of Folk Art Charcoal Gray. After that dried I airbrushed a light coat of the following colors along the bottom of the car: Folk Art Charcoal Gray, Raw Sienna, and Raw Umber. For the trucks after painting them I dry brushed them with Burnt Sienna and then Aspaltium. The cars were sealed with Dullcoat. In this thread: http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/002290/p/2.html#000021
Thanks everyone! I don't mind doing a clinic or a how to topic. The next time I weather a "clean" car I will have to remember to take some pictures. I have some cars that I weathered before that I am trying to "fix" the weathering so they would not be good examples. This is perfect. Just the excuse I need to build another kit.
Thanks. Yes, those are Kato PA1s that I renumbered for the Texas & New Orleans. The T&NO engines were also different from the standard Southern Pacific PA1s in that they were delivered without dynamic brakes. So I had to shave the dynamic grills off and repaint the roofs.
