Last pictures before the break. Next week I will be to the 25 anniversary of FREMO. This will be a layout! 200 meter modules!!! The European part is 2,000 meter big!

I've nearly finished laying track and turnouts. There're only left classification tracks and some spurs. This is for the time after the meeting. As well as turnout device and electrical connections.

    The future engine facility:

And an overview for the left, the west part of Westport:

    Wolfgang,

Looks like there will be lots of switching opportuites on this new section.

One question what is the handmade turnout doing on the edge of the layout?

Westport yard is big. It goes in my imagination beyond the fascia. I've soldered the points.

There will be some time no scenery. When everything works satisfactorily I will start with painting rails and basic scenery like ballast. But this will take month. There're some other projects to do.

    More work under the layout

Now I've installed the turnout mechanic device for the next segment.
    This is my method:

    The parts, in different steps:

The fascia end has the wooden part. For frog polarity I use a switch, actuated by the brass rod via a terminal strip part.

A critical part is the throw bar wire. Also terminal joint helps:

With those screws there's an easy adjustment.

    Also my moveable magnet:
The above layout picture shows how the magnet glides at brass angles:

Under the layout I have the similiar device as with the turnouts, one piece of wire is glued onto the magnet:

    The eyelets are for duct.

Above the layout you see nothing:

At least when all is covered with some scenery.

These two tracks are arrival / departure tracks. With the crossover I can pull a shorter string of cars. And with the moveable magnet there's no unwanted separation of the train.

That moving magnet is a good idea, I have used droping ones fixed with a hinge, but that way you can do more tracks with one magnet. :)

I was busy with wiring. The next segment is finished (I hope without errors, I have still to test it. )
The pictures show the segment with turnout device and with wiring:

I've also started with wiring my control panel. It's only for motorized turnouts and manual thrown turnouts in mainline. Then I want an indication.

I'm really curious, what is the diverging leg of that handlaid turnout off to the side of the layout going to be? It goes off the edge of the fascia, so I figured maybe there was going to be a layout expansion there maybe?

In my imagination there's more beyond the layout. This turnout represents the bigger engine facility.

Interchange tracks ends also at the fascia or at the backdrop. The magnets are for the classification tracks. Between the engine and the ladder is the caboose track.

Hi Papasmurf, that's the good with modular design. You build so much you want - time or money allow. If you look at the room plan at my site you will see I'm only building Westport yard new.

I have still to do wiring for the right side.

Now I'm busy with the engine facility. I've installed Walthers 90' turntable.
This is an easy task. You follow the instruction, cut the hole, insert the turntable, attache the wires. Ready!
And it's fine to look at the slowly turning bridge. Here's the second engine:

Now I have to lay some service tracks.
