I have two of them, it takes four to do their job correctly. [IMG] These were obviously not installed when they fell off a passing train. They weigh about 12 pounds each so would NOT feel too good if you were standing track side and were hit with one. [IMG] What are they?

My guess is the interconnectors between containers. Don't know the technical term. [IMG]

Thats exactly what they are. They turn & lock the container in place. The same devise is on the chassis for transporting over the road. There on each corner,4 in all.

You got it. OK, now what is the name for them that is used on the railroad? I don't know that one. These were collected at the BNSF/UP diamond at the old Tower 17 site where UP container trains coming out of Houston with new loads hit their first big bump at high speed. These "things" must occasionally be left loose in the wells or on the deck and come bouncing off.

I'm thinking IBC inter-box connectors, or some such thing.

That is correct! Just one of the dangers to face
while doing "roll-by" inspections of passing trains during a meet. Another hazard to watch
out for is loose or improperly secured cable bindings on centerbeam lumber flats. A good way to be decapitated!

Also watch out for a load of telephone poles. One load came loose on the head end and a pole skewered a car at a crossing! It sheared off the wig-wag, carried the car to a string of box cars at the next siding, and poked a hole in the end of one leaving the car and bodies there.
