Got this SD60 off eBay for a very reasonable price - dropped in a TCS decoder, and we're off.

I blew the rest of my year's modeling budget (or until I pay it off in overtime) on a purchase that I sincerely hoped that I would not regret.

This thing is amazing. It's beautiful, and it runs surprisingly well. It came without a coupler on the tender, but there was a screw that accepted a MT 1015-1 quite nicely. It pulled 28 passenger cars this afternoon on (relatively) level track. It can probably pull more, but I was running out of passenger cars to test with. It can just barely negotiate a 15" radius curve, but that's definitely its lower limit; the slightest kink or imperfection will derail it. It navigates Atlas #5's with no problem, and it seems to do fine on my mainline 18" radius curves. I haven't had any issues with electrical pickup.

So far, this has been a winner, if an expensive one! Now it just needs a DCC decoder.

I haven't purchased anything in years mainly because other interests have come in the way. I'll always be a model railroader by heart though, and even though I don't have a layout, I still love the locos of just about all roads. I stopped by my old train store a few days ago to see what was going on and noticed a few consignments sitting on the shelf. Picked up this beautiful UP 4400CW that was looking brand spanking new. Well I said we have to do something about that. Bought it, brought it home and immediately got out the weathering kit. I never saw a dirty UP loco that I didn't like. Here's a few pics by itself and lashed up with a SD45.

Also am waiting for a GP38 GM&O that I won from e-bay yesterday. To make it look prototypical, I'll be in hog heaven with the weathering on this one. Who ever saw a shiny new GM&O ?

I'm looking forward to watching your progress, if you think you'll take the time to photograph and publish as you go. Would be cool to watch.

A little late, but I got an amazing Amtrak P42 custom painted locomotive from Jeff Gowers. It is the Postal Anniversary scheme, #100. It is just amazing to look at. He had some great photos of it here on Trainboard and was nice enough to do one for me, I can't take a photo to do it justice!

My latest purchase was made 2 days ago. All N-Scale related. I ordered my NCE DCC 2 Amp Starter Set, 3 Digitrax decoders, Kapton tape and some Labelle oil.

I wanted to revive this old thread before it completely disappeared. Already 2 pages back in the n scale board after 5 days.

My latest purchase not so terribly exciting but something for the layout when I finish my thesis (In a few days if I keep working on it!) and can work on the layout.
Off eBay, got 2 Classic Metal Works/ Mini-metals N scale Santa Fe RR dolivery cans for my freight house.
And 2 Classic Metal Works/ Mini-metals N scale White semi-tractors. Not so sure where I will use them, but I have lots of spare short trailers from old 50' TOFC flats that I wanted to use for something other than TOFC flats.
    Paid about 40% list price.

Have some more exciting stuff coming, but I wanted to revive this thread.

Just picked up a few new locomotives to replace the units I liquidated. Just in, ATSF F7B in Blue pinstripe, custom paint job. Add to that about 200 cars from an estate sale. Also got word about 3 Hallmark brass Northerns that will be coming my way too.

While on vacation, I picked up a Metra coach and cab-coach (slowly building up my Metra consists), a Kato SD40 (UP), the amfleet 3-car set from Kato (the beginnings of my Amtrak Hiawatha), some people and vehciles for scale purposes, and some simple structures to make molds from (1:160 scale brick and grout lines are just beyond my crafting ability)

I'm very fortunate to have found an Athearn F59PHI, Seattle Sounder (new) for a reasonable price for the Puget Sound part of my layout (way way in the future) Now to find the Bombardier coaches and cab to go with it. This has been a tough search, especially since I really don't have access to train shows.

Bought some undecorated MTL flat cars, rslaserkits conversion decks, Life Like SW1200 in C&NW and a big bunch of trees...the "summer" here in germany makes it ideal to stay inside and do some modeling ;-)

YOU DOG, YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is one beautiful locomotive and one of the better PRR steam experiments before the diesels did them all in. This was Pennsy's response to the 4-8-4. Apparently they were concerned over the pounding that a heavy connecting rod with large diameter wheels inflicted on the track so they chose to lighten it by using two smaller rods. I would love to run one of them on my Ntrak club's layout.

Couldn't resist one of the new Kato SD70ACEs. Did a little customizing by replacing the fromt plow and adding the MU hoses. Also painted the handrails white.

Also couldn't resist getting a few GM&O locos. Prices on e-bay were good enough, and that Life Like FA1 really has some good detail. I think the added MU hoses really came out good too on the GP 38.

I just got the sweetest little N scale Art Moderne waffle shop kit. I think it is very thin resin.
From “willmodels” via eBay. It’s about an inch wide and an inch and a half long. Wonder how many tables would fit in such an establishment. Interior has a tile floor- will be fun to paint.
Came with decals for three different businesses.
I will need to fit it somewhere into my beachfront amusement and tourist district.
Willmodels also sells N scale vehicles--- and miscellaneous WHEELS for N vehicles. THAT’s what I got with my waffle shop..spare wheels. Now I can replace some lost wheels from old resin models.

Those are some of my favorite kinds of purchases. I always have a special place in my heart for the rolling stock that I've bought and fixed up.
