We have many fine members in the Southern Hemispehre that are looking forward to Summer - (curses on you folks!) but all of us in the North are headed into Winter For many of us that means more time indoors and possible more hobby time. What kind of model railroad projects/expansions/creations are in the works on your layout this Winter season? For me it is to actually unpack all of my N and HO Frisco treasures. I moved across the U.S. last year (to Maine) and it's all still in boxes. I am looking forward to the future though and possible construction of a small layout. If nothing else, at least I can display some of it. Let's hear about your plans! ------------------ Ship It On The FRISCO! | IAMOKA.com
Ahhh, let's see here. I think I'll be MODEL RAILROADING AND RAILFANNING! Just because there's snow on the ground, doesn't mean we stop Railfanning! Some of the COOLEST (pun intended) shots of trains are snow shots! Does the gang Down Unda' ever see any snow? I Model Railroad and Rail Fan year round so I guess my final answer would be, Same "Stuff", Different Day. ------------------ Brent Tidaback, Member #234 BNSF Railfan-to-the Max and a N-Scaler to boot! E-8, have I got news for you! If you guys would let me off this eletrickity box long enough, I could finish my roundhouse. I'm gittin' ready to lay track but I have to finish the turntable first. Do you need to lease my rotary snow plow? Ha. ------------------ Watash
I am still trying to get the time to finish track-laying, then get the basic scenery done. Maybe soon we can have some good running sessions Charlie, will you have time between making pillows (BTW - we call 'em cushions, so what do you call the things you lay your head on?) ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
Well let me see I've just turned on the solar heating for my pool and fertilizing the lawns. Plants are about to flower and the weather is nice and warm. I am about to build a new pergola for more summer BBQ's hehehe. Now to modelling I'll be extending the layout soon, buying the flourescent lights for the extension tomorrow. Benchwork will commence in a few weeks. ------------------ Paul Cassar-# Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
It is time for the 4th and final portion of building the track on my layout. I am modeling the SP and NCNG. Phase 1 was from Auburn CA to Colfax. Phase 2 was from Colfax to Blue Canyon. Phase 3 was the narrow gauge (now standard gauged) from Colfax to Chicago Park. Phase 4 is from Chicago Park to Grass Valley and finally Nevada City. I spent the summer building mountains while it was still warm enough to clean up the plastering equipment outside. Now I can concentrate on inside work.
Watash - we might need that snow plow. I wish we could just send the snow somewhere else though.
quote:
Originally posted by Alan: Charlie, will you have time between making pillows (BTW - we call 'em cushions, so what do you call the things you lay your head on?)

Ahhh ... I hope to have some time but we are in the pillow making business. Yes, cushions woul be a good term and ours could be either - they are not really for laying your head on though as they are filled with 2 to 3 pounds of ground Maine Balsam Fir. Now, if I can figure out a way to tie that in to trains?!? Charlie ------------------ Ship It On The FRISCO! | IAMOKA.com
Well I just posted a message telling everyone that I am about to start a new (and improved) Colorado and Southwestern layout in my garage. Phase I is 10 x 10 feet (on 12-18 inch shelving that the previous house owners left in place!). I have a rough plan, and have even placed some loose track! Happy Modeling!! Hopefully, and with any luck we will start constructing our N scale Woodland Scenic’s 3 x 6 foot Scenic Ridge kit which will be our first layout. Getting the itch to having something to run engines and rolling stock on that we have been collecting since the being of the year. Have been able to spend some time on Alan’s spine car kits, the units have now been airbrushed and are ready for detailing ( still having fun Alan) . More time will be spent in the shop now that winter is approaching, that is except when duty calls to use the snow blower . ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI
As for myself, I'll probably be busy working on my club's layout. Since the summers here in SoCal are so darn hot, and our brick building doesn't have A/C, not much work gets done on the layout during that time of year! That, and I'll try to get caught up on some of my MANY freightcar and locomotive detailing and painting projects...like my 2 SP SD70M's, SP SD45R, 2 SP GP35R's, SP SD40R, SSW SD45T-2, SP MP15AC(that's the fun one! ), various classes of SP Boxcars and Autoracks, and on and on. And of course, who knows what else will be released down the line that'll add to the pile of unfinished projects! ------------------ Have A Nice Day!

Gee... what will I be doing during YOUR winter?... let's see. - Helping the Colonel with the layout extensions (I expect), - getting involved with the Thursday night and Sunday racing programs on a friend's yacht, - doing the yearly check of sun-screen levels, hat condition, car A/C, beach towel - maybe trying for any colour other than white on the epidermis... Yep, this southern winter sure is cool (in the air-con!). Gary.

quote:
Originally posted by Maxwell Plant: Does the gang Down Unda' ever see any snow

We sure do, but nowhere near what most of you experience. We just had our best season in 40 years, but it has just about melted off now. The weather was too good during the Big Sports Carnival. As for trains in the snow, it is possible to catch trains in a dusting, but it's rare. Most of the lines in the high country have been closed for years, and there is the possibility of very light snow in the higher section of the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney. One exception is the Ski Tube - a dedicated part-cog railway, from Bullocks Flat to Perisher/Blue Cow ski fields, down in the Australian Alps. Gary.

This winter, I hope to see my first layout come together. It's essentially an 4x8, but I have cut a couple of corners off to add some different dimensions to it. It's not really going to be a prototype of anything, just playing around with it. I just picked up all my lumber and hope to start on my Lgirder stand in the next week or two. I am planning to go with DCC right from the getgo. But I will wait a while until I need to make that decision. Luckily, I won't have but a couple of engines to fit with decoders and sound.
quote:
Originally posted by tunnel88: Keep us posted on that MP15AC...

Will-do, tunnel88....but right now it's not much beyond a pile of Cannon and Athearn parts sitting on the worktable. I did get the frame finished, though...I shortened an Athearn GP50 frame and fuel tank to get the proper truck spacing and fuel tank length; quick and easy, thanks to a friend that was kind enough to let me borrow his milling machine! Of course, if and when I get this engine completed, you just know some company is gonna announce one in plastic! ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
here's the news from the Delaide, Laight & Wrekked RR. 90 ft of main line up and running with a complete loop. DCC with walk-arounds wired up to only 2 points so far. 40 Tortoise wired in, 22 operational by either computer/local switch/cab control. 2 doodlebugs DCC ok, the rest of the engines are in process of installing soundtrax decoders and speakers. 1 Proto 2-8-2 operational and sounding great. This winter will be a mite slow, 1. Finish building helix 2. Lay in 150 ft of track. 3. Install 60 Tortoise machines. 4. Recheck tracks to insure smooth running. 5. Recheck tracks to insure smooth running. 6. Recheck tracks to insure smooth running. That should take me 'til summer of '01 ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine. Member #33
