I wonder what project is in the works right now?

In order to make this type of roof, I needed a gluing jig to hold everything square:
    question 1.jpg

After gluing the roof sections with the jig, they are square enough to stack the layers and have it symmetrical instead of tilted in any axis.
    question 2.jpg

I needed a sign that has a glossy finish, so I printed with my regular printer, then put packing tape on top and smoothed out all the micro bubbles, and cut the conical shape I needed:
    question 3.jpg

And I was able to put discs in the bottom and top to shape the bucket, then run an SMT LED inside some .040" brass tubing to light it up:

    Rob,
I didn't know they had a KFC in Lester, WA!
Seriously, nice start, and cool roof construction.

I think that is the old general store, but I am not sure. The population was too small to support any commercial chains, maybe only a couple hundred people in the 1950's

I made some more progress on my project. I got the roof assembly done, and started masking it for painting:
    Start Masking Roof.jpg

Masking took about an hour, but I wanted it as good as I could get it. After masking I sprayed a layer of clear coat to minimize any color bleed under the masking tape:
    Roof Masked.jpg

I painted the roof, then I will cut out the facia signs and glue to the roof facia's. I just assembled some artwork for the signs, and put a piece of shipping tape over the printouts to represent plastic signs. I had cut out a rectangle from the facia boards so I could backlight the signs. My endgame goal is to make my model more detailed than the HO Scale plastic model:
    Roof Painted.jpg

I wired in 0402 sized warm white SMT LED's to represent the roof lights, and I put some inside to act as facia sign backlights. Also, not shown is that I places 2mm super magnets inside the roof corners so I can make the roof removable to service lighting, and to see inside the restaurant. Here is the 12v test using a 9v battery:

And here is a nighttime shot with the lights off:

I'm going to need a bucket of Extra Crispy, please.

And as usual, that is some darn fine modeling, Rob.

That is some really intricate and well done masking. Outstanding results. I could go for some KFC original at the moment. Jim
