With continuing with my downtown, I have now finished my Hillsdale Furniture five story building. The first two levels I have a complete interior with furniture for sell, along with lighting. I think it complements my U.P. Hotel.
WOW! You do a great job on bringing Charlie T's https://zandusmodels.wordpress.com/models/ to life!! Well done! John
I haven’t found a good source for sidewalks, so I just paint the board with Scalecoat Concrete, then set the building back far enough from the road to make it look like it has a sidewalk. Your eyes will be more focused on the structure and the lighting than to really notice a lack of sidewalk. As for the roads I purchase CMR products which make great roads. They are made from styrene with various available road prints. They make roads that look new to old roads and in between. They also have the intersections and even parking lots!
Wow Clyde! That furniture store really pops too, I live that you can clearly see all kinds of furniture inside for sale.
I'm shopping for a mattress. Will there be any sales soon??? Really nice to see two buildings of this magnitude and scope in Z-scale. We need more of these as it legitimizes the large city scenes tremendously. Lighting and interior details like this are simply icing on the cake --- with a touch of sprinkles.....
So I haven't been working on any projects for a few days, as I was out of .024" Polybak, AKA "Laserboard". All the sources I had, had dried up and the only places that had any was Hobart in Europe, which only ships to Europe, and Automated Artists which charge 2.4¢ a square inch or $3.46 a square foot, so I had to find a more economical source. I decided to look at the woodworking forums and found some of the .024" thick Polybak PB90 for $10 a sheet, or 31¢ a square foot, a full 11 times cheaper. I ordered 5 sheets to offset the $10 shipping charge giving me 160 square feet for $60, and it only took 7 days from order to arrival. It came well rolled up in a large box: But 5 sheets is easy to deal with, and not to hard to unpackage. I was worried it would spring open on my but it was surprisingly easy to unpack: And they sent the correct material upon closer inspection, so the next task will be to cut it down to size for my laser.
That's alot of SAFEWAY's right there........ On a side note, I use Encompass Media / Laser One. He seems to have stock all the time ---- errrr, last time I ordered. Plus he has a wide variety of colors and thicknesses. I ordered from him about 2 months ago. Let me know if you need a link....
I went to the Encompass Media site first, but got an "Invalid Request" error, so I went to their main link instead of their Polybak page, and the main link says "Turbify... Coming Soon A New Website Is In The Works", so I figured they were out of business. Anyways Woodworkers Express is my new Go To vendor for Polybak. They have all sizes and types available and it's cheap! Cheaper than paper! So the Safeway takes a little over 1 square foot of Polybak to make. I can probably get `150 of them out of the material I just bought, and I am making 4 Z Scale and 1 N Scale version of them to satisfy the masses.
Try this link and see if it works. I've literally got it open right now and logged in, etc. SHOP PAGE (salesvu.com)
That link works, thanks. I almost got all the sheets cut from the material I just bought, and I am happy with the price. Here is the 5 sheets cut down to laser size. The box labeled 3M is my $400 roll of transfer adhesive used to make materials peel and stickable:
Just finished three more buildings for my downtown. Now I have a Men’s Store, a Beauty Salon, Ice Cream Shop, and an Antique Shop. Last building too do is a Library with complete inside details and lighting.
Hi all, I recently found an Austrian supplier of lasercut houses by the name of Thomas Heuser. His program includes western style buildings and scenery details in Z. I ordered some of his kits and built one, of which I would like to share some photos. I am really pleased with this kit. I has some nice details like the bricks where plaster has gone, it goes together without issues and it is nicely priced (8,40 euros, so little over 9 US dollars). I stained the wood with a mix of acrylic paint, water and a bit of 90* alcohol. Afterwards, some drybrushing was applied. Check out Thomas's website, he has more buildings, most of which in the 10-12 dollar range. https://microwelten.de/shopsoftware_neu/index.php?cPath=73_81 The website is also in english, however, then the Z scale collection isn't shown in the menu; so select your items from the German language pages and then switch to English to finish your order and payment. Paypal or credit card can be used, shipping is world wide. No affiliation, just a happy customer here Matt
