Well the GRR relies on pooled power from Conrail and N&W. I have: 4 GE C30-7's 2 Alco C424's 2 Alco C425's 3 GP18's 2 F-7's 1 GP35 1 GP38ac I have a few others but that is the bulk of my fleet. The GRR steam fleet contains 1 Mikado and two Consolidations for excursion service. ------------------ A.J. y6b N&W and Conrail Fan http://communities.msn.com/TheGRRModelRR
Catt: My compliments on excellent looking motive power!! Each of these looks fine the way they are, are you sure these are N size? The paint is so crisp, I don't think I have seen a better job anywhere. Got to hand it to you man! I am ashamed to know so little about N, but that comes from getting old in HO. Ha. What are you nit-pickers trying to do, make us all feel bad about our second rate 'toys'? You have really done yourself proud! Enjoy!! ------------------ Watash

Both of the steamers were in use in the South Henderson Yard, but developed bearing problems and were sidelined for repair. Hey Maxwell Plant, would you look in your book, "The Book of Model Railroading", and see if it is the one that has a chapter on "Tips On Repairing and Lubricating Model Rolling Stock"? I think that book is one I have been looking for if it has that or a similar chapter. As I remember, the book had wiring, benchwork, kit assembly, scenery, and stuff like that in it. I need some info on getting into some of the many older types, (although still new in the box), of diesels. Some of these have screws, so are easy to 'open up', while others have a kind of snap-together method of getting the body off. These were designed under DFA specs, so are not manufactured with disassembly in mind. I worked under these brutal specs. several years. The idea was to invalidate the warranty if you break into their product, instead of sending it to them for any repairs. That was the other reason for it, they could make money off you again, see? Let me know about the book. Thanks. ------------------ Watash
Actually, it's called "The Encyclopedia of Model Railroading" and it didn't have anything about repair and lubrication of rolling stock. It did have something about cleaning the running gear and drive-train in steam loco's, but it entailed dipping the mechanisim in a solution while running, something I wouldn't recommend trying today. I'm sure the solution is too caustic and isn't avalible now. I'll have to unpack my books to find it and I'll get back to you on this. ------------------ Brent Tidaback, Member #234 BNSF Railfan-to-the Max and a N-Scaler to boot! Maxwell, when you have the time, and do find this book, see if it has a dark green cover (if hard bound), and in the very back last pages it has small photos of all kinds of engines, cranes, freight & passenger cars, and oddities. The original paper book protector was bright orange with a photo of a boy and his dad looking at a steam engine. Along about the middle of the book are a number of white line blue prints showing all the different ways one can assemble Lionel 0-27 type track into track patterns. ------------------ Watash
Hard bound cover on my book is a dark brownish-black and cream colored binding. This book deals with a lot of Ward Kimbell's collection in the first chapter, but mostly an HO scale book with a little O Scale. N and 027 isn't even metioned and TT is the "newest" scale. I doubt we are talking about the same book. It's packed away somewhere because I don't us it anymore, it's really dated, more of a look at our past than anything. Like I said, I'll get back to you when I find it. Anyway, we're getting off topic here, so here's my current roster... Brent, that's not the one I'm after, thanks anyway. I think the solution recommended was carbontetrachloride, yes some bad news stuff! From the looks of your roster, do you want to borrow my roundhouse? You'll need one about that big! Ha. ------------------ Watash [This message has been edited by watash (edited 21 October 2000).]
No thanks, all the pits have been filled on the AOW and really, it's not that large of a roster...at least not in my eyes. ------------------ Brent Tidaback, Member #234 BNSF Railfan-to-the Max and a N-Scaler to boot! The Orca Mt. RR has for primary motive power ten GG1-Ds purchased from the Pennsy when they unloaded most of those beauties for more modern stuff. We installed some surplus GI Navy submarine diesel engines to avoid having to string cantinary [sp?] all over the mountains here in NW Arizona. We ended up with horsepower figures real close to what the original GG-1s put out, and added a touch of class to western mountain RRing at the same time! Curt

What we need here is someone who can post our pix to do it. Any volinteers? I use fortunecity and don't seem to be able to post to trainboard.(pictures that is) ------------------ Catt!#118

Here goes more on the Orca Mt. RR: I decided to build a model RR that would represent the area I live in if the real RRs had "done it right" originally. There is lots of copper, coal, cattle and timber in NW Arizona, but the small RRs that were up here mostly are gone now so I'm combining the beautiful scenery up here with what I think a realitively modern, private RR would be like. I get tired of the concept that the heydays of RRing are gone, when we freelancers can show how it could be NOW. We offer great freight AND passenger service [got a GREAT deal at an auction after Amtrak showed up on 40 passenger cars from seven different RRs, and we've kept the original paint schemes for nostalgas sake]. We are an active part of the communities we serve and help bring new business to these areas as well. Make sense? Curt
The Oklahoma and North Eastern uses the following for motive power: GE 44-tonner, #4, in Frisco colors Alco RS2M, # 553, in Frisco colors Alco S2, # 56, blue w/ yellow lettering Alco RS3s 100 and 200, same colors as 56. Also, we use an NW2 in red with white lettering for subsidiary Joplin District Terminal (JDT), numbered 4692. The Alcos are blue & yellow, to reflect the colors of NEO A&M Junior College in Miami, OK ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco!
