Help!!! I'm modelling a C&O sd-40 #7534,and can't find the brake stand. It's not on the righthand side of the nose.Did it go on the back porch?I can't find photos, so I don't know where to place it.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It must be on the rear porch of the unit. As far as I know, North American SD40's only had either the brakewheel on the rear porch, or the ratchet brake recessed in the LH front hood. This photo of C&O 7534 clearly shows it is NOT in the front hood: http://www.trainweb.org/chessiephotos/photos/SD40/7534c&o.jpg

I don't know if you are modeling N or HO scale, but notice the trucks have 3 brake cylinders, high mounted.

Chessie,Thanks thats the VERY same photo I'm using.By combining a Kato (N scale) SD40 Frame and a SD40-2 shell, that loco is easy to do.The trucks are made by using the old Kato SD40 truck with the "new" Atlas SD35 sideframe.I'll have pictures very soon.BY the way,the Atlas SD35 truck is the same truck that was used on the Atlas/Kato sd7/9. Thanks again [IMG]

You couldn't exactly call me a C & O "modeller" but having recently acquired two exquisite Atlas n scale SD35s (one C & O, one B & O) I am able to double head my n scale freights with Chessie red and yellow liveried kitten power.

Actually I sort of acquired the second loco by accident as I wanted a SP unit but also specified a second choice to my mail order supplier in case the first choice wasn't available and I guess there must have been a run on Esspee motive power as it was the Chessie unit that arrived! I'm not complaining; I love the Chessie livery and decoration and I'll keep looking for a SP unit elsewhere to head up my PFE reefer trains.
