While going through Fullerton, CA a few days ago I could have swore I saw SD70MAC, #9647 as the third unit in an LA bound consist. It was 7:30 at night so I just saw a little paint and reflection. But it did look like it. Does any one know if in fact I did see this loco, or where it has been, or where it is heading, or what its future is. Obviousely, it is not old but the paint is already cracking and this is one of the only different paint schemes BNSF has!!! that it is the only one painted that way.i don't know if it is still around.i read that the bnsf wasn't going to repaint the special paint scheme engines, but we all know that is a lie due to the freedom fighter being h2ized.hopefully the vommitt bonnett is still around,it has gotten so ugly looking that it is finally growing on me. ------------------ anyone need a car call ed pinkley, home of the pinkley taurus.
You can see a pic of it at my website BNSF Motive Power Archive http://www.trainweb.org/bnsfmpa Matthew
Hey NOW! Gentile on the name calling. This happens to be my favorite locomotive. Just a little info in the past on it. The paint is not cracking on it. More like it was burn't off of it. It was though Galesburg one day going though the repair shop because it burn't up. My friend who is a conductor that works for the BNSF told me that. Outside of that I have not seen it anymore. This has been a couple of months ago that it was though here last time. ------------------ Keep on railroad'n [This message has been edited by Jack Doran (edited 17 December 2000).]

This is the first time I've heard of or seen this engine, but I like it, too. Better than H2, not so gaudy. Of course an EMD unit in any scheme looks better than those hideous Dash 9s. ------------------ Mike Smith lcso_927@hotmail.com Eugene, Oregon LCSO's RailPics ~ License and registration please... Interesting. I highly doubt it was the barfbonnet that you saw. It could have been a regular SD70MAC, but not Barfbonnet. Any SD70MACs coming through the pass, and all the way to Los Angeles is extremly rare, and to see a one of the kind paint scheme like that, is even rarer. If we were in Texas or other coal country, I would say it is possible. If that was it, you need you are very lucky. Cya down the line! Dash Dashtrak.com
I gather this is the locomotive everyone is comenting about? What is the history behind this paint scheme? Matt great website hope you don't mind me posting this pic from your site ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-Moderator & Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000 [This message has been edited by Colonel (edited 20 December 2000).]
Yep, that's it Paul. The reason I thought I saw it was that I did infact see an SD70 series loco in the warbonnet scheme AND I saw a bunch of reflectors on the sill of the locomotive (or right below the walkway. Also, because it was at night, it looked like the dark green and light sand color. Oh well, maybe I will see it some day...... ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts. BLMA N Scale Detail Parts BLMAinfo@aol.com
For a diesel, I think it looks pretty good. Got that Santa Fe heritage look. Keep Steamin' ------------------ http://www.pioneer.net/~fitzrr/
It looks good in that picture. The picture must have been taken before the burn up. The last time I saw it. Lets put it this way. It was due for an H2'n paint scheme. When it burn't up it took most of the paint with on the top side of the engine doors(section with the horn and engine doors on top) it looked like it needed to be repainted. Luckily I can remember this loco when it is gone in to the H2 scheme because I bought it in brass from overland. Just for that very reason. BNSF only painted 1 of it. And when they repaint it is gone. I had seen this loco about a half dozen times. I everytime I see it I chase it and get some pictures of it. Know if I only had a way to put them on the forum. ------------------ Keep on railroad'n

Don't have a scanner. I check this forum from an outside source like a public library. One of these days I will get a personal computer and a scanner.
I saw 9647 today with an eastbound coal train. Only saw the Fireman's side. Looked like the paint was peeling some behind the dynamic brake.
