So, I'm a bit confused Which BNSF engine types will receive H@ paint instead of H1? There are a bunch of C44-9s in both H1 and H2. I know the Macs are getting H2. What about the GP60Ms, the SD75s and all of that?
If memory serves me correctly, all wide cabs that do not have H2 now will get it when repainted. Non wide cabs and B units will get H1. The Dash 9's that are in H1 were delivered before the H2 scheme came out. I saw a pic somewhere on the net of a GP60M in H2 paint. Maybe it was on one of the QStation.org links. I'm not sure. Also, a few weeks ago, I was in Birmingham AL and saw B40-8W #550 in fresh H2 paint!
I recently saw a B40-8W in H1, that's part of my confusion actually. I assumed it would be anything from the Superfleet, Plus the MACs, but the seem to be excluding the SD60Ms from repaint to H2.
The same day we saw the B40-8W in H2, we also saw a SD60M in H2. I don't have anywhere on the net to post the pic but if any of you want to see it, just email me and I will be glad to send it via email it back to you.
All of the information I have seen and heard is that wide cab units will receive H2, and hood units will receive H1. As noted, some C44's were delivered in H1 and will receive H2 paint when repainted. One example of this is 1101, which was delivered in H1, but received H2 paint after being repaired due to wreck damage. As far as I know, the only wide cab units that have received H1 paint are the C44's delivered in that paint (960-1143) and two SD60M's. The 9297 was painted in an experimental scheme with different striping on each side, and the 9277 which may have been painted before the H2 scheme became standard for widecab units. A great source for photos and notes regarding BNSF's roster is at http://www.bnsfpix.com/ . In the roster database, there is notes for each locomotive detailing the paint scheme that it currently wears, and links to photos if they are available.
I believe BNSF's policy regarding which units get H1 and which get H2 are this: low horsepower (under 3500) get H1 High Horsepower (Over 3500) and Comfort Cab equipped units get H2. However, this brings up the point of units 960-1124, which were delivered in H1; these units may get H2 if and when rebuild is neccessary (or wreck repaired).
I'd heard the HP theory shortly after BNSF was created, but the current paint policy seems to indicate that all safetycab units get H2, and standard-cab units get H1. After all, that would explain why several B40-8s (4,000hp) and at least one GP60B (3,800hp) have received H1 paint. [ 03. August 2002, 22:11: Message edited by: SP 8299 ]
