The class 175 dmu's are used on shuttle trains between Windermere and Oxenholme and also on Windermere to Manchester Airport trains. It appeared in the short time I was there that two-car trains ran the shuttles and three-car units on the Airport trains.

Note that the train is in First Group livery, but the name on the side of the cars has been crudely sprayed over in blue. According to my Platform 5 book, they are now operated by Wales and Borders, but several are leased back to First North Western!

Here is a two car 175 008 at Windermere station

Here is a 3-car unit 175 103 on a Windermere to Manchester airport train pausing at Kendal. The train is going away from the camera (note the red tail lights).

and later, our train back to Windermere arriving in Kendal, also a 3-car unit on a train from Manchester airport 175 110

These units are very smooth and quiet to ride, maybe due to the hydraulic transmission?

Unfortunately it's a case of the Platform 5 being a snapshot at one time!

Wales & Borders now doesn't exist, it is now part of Arriva Trains Wales, and some of the bits of First North Western that these were used on have become Trans Pennine Express!

The remains of FNW and Arriva Trains Northern will at some point become a new "Regional Railways Northern" franchise!

Lots of units have bounced around between various TOCs to let it all happen!

Thanks Martyn. All the new happenings are very confusing to me! I have only recently begun taking notice of our trains again. When we just had BR regions, it was soooo simple :D
