Hoping you all have a nice Winter Solstice. And that Christmas Holly Days are going well for those that celebrate.
And now into the gray days of the year. A great time to be snug and warm, indoors with a fantastic hobby!
This is probably the day I look forward to more than any other as I know the days will start getting longer and spring and summer will return. Here are a few local solstice pictures. We are in the heart of Anasazi country here. The Anasazi were the Native Americans that lived here 1000 years ago and left over 100,000 archaeological sites in our county according to the archaeologists. So happy solstice to all. Sumner
Joyous Solstice to all! An Tri numh (The sacred Three) A chumhnadh, (To save,) A chomhnadh, (To shield,) A chomraig (To surround) An tula, (the hearth) An taighe, (The house,) An teaghlaich, (The household,) An oidhche, (This eve,) An nochd, (This night,) O! an oidhche, (Oh! this eve,) An nochd, (This night,) Agus gach oidhche, (And every night,) Gach aon oidhche. (Each single night.) BeannachtaĆ ar dhuit an oĆche Grianstad (Blessings on thee this solstice night!)
Happy Solstice. It's all uphill for the sun from here! Some might not be aware, but the sun has been setting later each day in the N. Hemisphere since about the 12th of December. However, the differences between sunsets amounts to a second or three during this peri-solstice transition. The sun still rises later each day until about the 8th of January, and those daily differences are still running around the 8-20 second range until closer to New Year. So, it isn't until Dec 21 that the two balance out, the later sunsets and the later sunrises.
'Steve Henge' Looking West Back Story: Built by an acient civilization in the Grandure Valley and protected by the local tribes ever since. The railroad has 'permission' to build around it but do not touch. "To violate them would bring great harm to the region." Here you can see the 'Shadow Caster and Catcher' (as translated from the local tribes). The kitchen is in the far background. Another Angle: Looking south Hmm, I think I'll paint the Shinkasen staging area dark which should allow for a darker shadow. These will also be used to mark the Equanoxes and family birthdays. I will add the towers as the days come and go.
@Shortround Thanks for starting this thread! @Sumner Great! Posting. Thanks! @Bookbear1 May I ask the language? I'm guessing Gaelic?
