I am not up this, as yet, but I purchase some fine gauge copper wire at A.C. Moore 30, 32, and 36 gauge to be exact on suggestion of one of our members for clearing out clogged nozzles of an airbrush. It comes in spools of 50- 125 feet.

I took a look and one of the three looks perfect for making your own detail parts like steam pipes or grab irons. I bet it would be really simple to make a jig for it, as well.

Just a thought for the detail oriented guys.

    Mark:

    Thanks for the idea.

I found some some very fine brass tubing (solid) that I can use for steam pipes for steamers. as well as for handrails in steamers.

Why don't you try it out yourself on those MP steamers.

Find some Feedwater heaters and then add some pipng to it.

    Have fun... [IMG]

    Mark,

You've come a very long way in a very short time with the Lessons Learned Line. Congratulations, and thanks for the tips!

Uh, how do I interpret "I am not up this, as yet, but I purchase. . .?" Is there a part of my 40,000 word vocabulary that I'm missing? [IMG] [IMG]

I generally get the Detail Associates fine brass rods in various sizes. Usually costs me my arm and a leg, though...
I should look for these.. I have a bunch of engines that need MU hoses and cables...

    Mark:

How did you make out with the fine wire you purchased?

Have you started to detail your steam loco's yet?

Have fun with the LLL... [IMG]

I am betting that Mark will produce something spectacular. To me, he's like the rookie who starts in his sixth NFL game, and then goes on to rip up the league. I am very impressed with the LLL.

I wish I could remember how long it's been, Mark. About two years since you started? And now gauge 36 wire? I think that I can't even see that these days.

    Keep us posted . . .

    Dear Mr. Nolan;

Naturally, the below is said in jest. I do, however, thank you for your kind words and ever present encouragement.

A trick that they larned us at PS 273 in Brooklyn, NY was to read the entire sentence. We were furnished with only 2000 word vocabularies since there was a perpetual budget crisis in NYC and the Board of Education was unable to provide its students with words that contained more than two syllables. As everyone knows, more complicated words cost more to print and if written on a blackboard, used more chalk.

Here is the balance of the sentence "...on suggestion of one of our members for clearing out clogged nozzles of an airbrush."

I purchased the wire due to an utter failure in being able to maintain a clean air brush. Bob made the suggestion about the wire. BUT, during the winter, I plan to try it out as irons and pipes, etc. I have finished the 4x6 layout and have done the dreaming. Over the winter, I will be in the planning stage and hopefully will have the new train room in the basement properly ceilinged and lit and ready for benchwork.

P.S. January, 2004 planning. Top done in February.
