Hi GuyZ and GalZ, I am looking for a Z Scale fishing boat, for Sardines or Shrimp. They look like a tugboat almost, wider than most boats, with a pointier front than a tug, except there will be a couple masts that have a crossbar for nets. There used to be a Z Scale resin kit from Lineside Models of a 52' fishing boat that would work, but they are no longer available. I am sure there are other scale boats that are usable too. If you know of suitable boats, that are somewhat to scale and suitable for Z, please post. I am thinking 3-4" long, not really looking for a Cutty Sark type ship, as I would like to have a couple in my small cannery row area. Thanks, Robert
Dam! Dam! Dam! Last September I've started to reduce this ship into 1:220 scale to create a kit, Boy! am I out of schedule with my "so" multiple projects. Haaa! I need to quit my day job! LOL!
I have a couple of tug castings I did a few years ago. In the process of revamping the line and adding to it for sale soon. I don't have a shot of it here, but Don and a few others have used them on their layouts. Joe
Robert- I got a couple of Joe's tugs and hermophridited them. They are very nice straight up or converted. Worth the wait... Fred
Robert - not sure if you know but Richard Plantz Hobbies now owns the Lineside Models products Boats (Z Scale) - Richard Plantz Hobbies He seems to be constantly out of stock on all the Z scale items. If enough Zheads bug him he may get on the stick and produce some more. Animek - That would be one sweet tugboat in Z! John
John-- those would be fun boats to "play" with. Some additional fotos- the white boat is a Thomas the train cartoon boat as are the double tug picture. Lop off the hats and do a little crash bashing and they turn out pretty well- untill something better comes along. A sailboat like a Skipjack or the Pride always makes a pretty sight in a harbour. Fred
This is kind of what I am thinking of, but this hanging mobile has 6" long boats, where I need something 3", which would be in the 50' length or so. The model Animek is suggesting is easy to convert, but it's HO scale. I had emailed Lineside Model's new owner early this morning, but no reply so far. If I can get a couple of of Joe's in the 3" size I could convert them to something like this: It's that basic Montery Bay Cannery Row look I am after, and these are the kinds of boats, Shrimp Trawlers, Squid Trawlers, and Sardine Trawlers I am thinking of. I can fit 2 of them in my small waterside area. I need to move quick though, as the conventions is rapidly approaching and I have finally finished all my big obligations, so can fit in some modeling for myself. If anyone has anything in the 3" size that would work, and is a real buy it now product, let me know, and count it as sold
Here is the progress of the module, so you can see how small an area i am working with, thankfully, Z is small, so the space is relatively large: So it's the left side of the bridge that will be the cannery row type side. It will be cool if I can pull it off, but it's not going to be easy. The large camelback bridge is just to give an idea of what I am looking for, I will be building another smaller dual track bridge for that spot. Also soliciting ideas... Should the bridge be black, green, or silver. I kind of want to leave the back bridge silver, because it's already got the track part built.
Turns out Mike Duggan has just the boat I need. His is 3.5" long by 3/4" wide. Perfect, now I can start work on a pier and struture.
Started on the backdrop after I did the plaster cloth. I want the backdrop done before I start placing models on the module.
Robert, the module is just looking too cool! I love the bridge placement. A cannery row... I can't wait to see it come to life! Rob
Thanks John. Robert- one more picture-- if you want multiple boats- the two little ones are 2 3/16" long and all are Joe's.
Those little ones are exactly the type I need. Did you customize them or do they build just like that? And are you offering them up?
Fred - What is the width and length of the tugs and fishing boats. Joe - You are a man of many secrets. Great looking boats! John
John- The tugs are 5" long and 1 1/8" on the beam. The little fishing boats are 2 3/8" long and 3/4" wide. ( previously I missread my measuring instrument) Robert- Maybe Joe has some in his boxes of stuff. My level of detail would not come up to your standards, so it would probably be best to start with a new unaltered model. Fred
