Here are some good ideas for coastal modeling: http://coastline.no13.se/ http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23577 http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28072
That's an excellent thread you linked Chris! That guy is a real artist, and now I know what I am going to do for ideas! He has so many sketches that I can translate into scenes it's phenomenal. Thanks!
Decided to add a third level boardwalk, so while thinking about that, I worked on the sawmill a bit this weekend. Here is the Oldtime Sawmill progress: A little more work done to the sawmill. The roof is completed now. The staircase on right side of structure done, as well as the windows, and door frames. Looking inside, the interior of the sawing floor is completed. New machinery from the first version is a Cant Carriage has been added. The operator rides the carriage as the bandsaw saws the cant from log into lumber. Looking from the top, we can see the holes in the floor where the slash and debris falls away from the saws. There would be a chipper below which chips the waste and that will go to the slash burner, to be modeled later. Added workers, assorted small tools laying around, sawdust, and you can see the lumber from cut logs down to 2x4's at various stations on the cutting floor.
Nice Rob ! Looks like a fire waiting to happen ! Like the logs inside. Do you plan to prop the roof up to show whats inside ? .
I took time away from the module to build a few cars, which is my real passion with the hobby anyways, but here is a shot of the details I packed into the pier, and I planted lots of trees too:
Robert Did your sound inside the sawmill worked well at the show? Did people noticed the sound on your layout? Ben
I ran out of time, so never made the soundtrack for the player. I had purchased the old sawmill soundtrack from fantasonics to use, but when it came down to loading it up, I was showing Jeff, and it turned out they sent me the 1920's logging camp soundtrack, so there is no sawing sounds. I have downloaded a lot of saw sounds now, and just need to make the soundtrack, to get that operational for the July GTE show.
He was still adding them at the convention. Impulse buys. Note the wet glue under the row boat. Dan S.
Yes, I paid 200 bones for that boat, but it was the only act in town that fit the scene, and I am real happy with it.
I got the row boats from those nice people from the Netherlands. (I can't remember their shop name right now, someone else please chime in here) The oars are etched metal. I also got fishermen, cowboys, etc. They were also selling choppers and hogs with hippies riding them!
Yea, same here Rob can't find their card. But they did have some nice castings for sure. Could have spent a pile with them. rich
Spoor-Z is their website, but I don't have their names. Their site doesn't have most of the items that they had with them in Medford, so you would probably have to contact them. Dan S.
