Maybe its old news that the French TGV went over 350mph. But I hadn't seen this video before, so I thought others might enjoy it. [ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dw4zn-qw1oM"]YouTube - Worlds fastest Train: 574.8kmph.[/ame]
That's an impressive video. I imagine some pucker strings were pulled pretty tight during that run.......:tb-biggrin:
The question now is- Can anyone produce a rail technology that is commercially useable at that speed? Maintaining an infrastructure to safely support such speeds, will be incredibly expensive. I saw a brief blurb on PBS a few days ago. Might have been about this run? Boxcab E50
Wow, that is incredible. My first reaction was, it must be a new Japanese Bullet train and I was surprised to see it's the French TGV. Here is a link of what I thought it would be: New bullet train could be world's fastest | The Japan Times Online And I agree, how fast do you need to go, unless your competing with the airlines? I once post this before, but I had to take a trip from Tokyo to Nagano by bus and it took 7 1/2 hr. My return trip was on a Bullet train, 3 hrs and one of the most comfortable rides I've ever experienced.
Maglev is capable of very fast speeds. Much, MUCH faster than railed travel. However, it is also far, FAR more costly. There are some short lines in use. I believe the Chinese are way ahead of the world in this field. Boxcab E50
