Dave, If I recall your last layout was outside and was a superb garden layout. I gather you have now decided on an indoor layout? Whats the reason behind your decision?
Dave, first of all you have a very nice looking site. and yes i enjoyed every page of it you're a great modeler!
I had to get things under way down stairs because we just built a new house. I knew we'd need at least two years to get the landscaping under control so the indoor layout would have to do. At the same time I didn't want to spend a lot of time and energy doing a temporary layout so we designed the basement for the layout. Hey! Why not. Once we get things under control outside I'll build a simple route of track in the garden. That will be more "garden" oriented than built to "scale". In the meantime I can laugh the weather.
Everyone with enough room for a small HO layout (10 by 12) has enough room for an indoor large scale layout. First: The smaller 2-6-0's and 2'8'0's are usually narrow gauge models and will look just fine going around tighter corners. Same with standard guage yard switchers. Second: The larger scales don't lend themselves to "collecting" cars and engines. I know N and HO folks that have HUGE unused fleets of engines and "hundreds" of pieces of rolling stock. Why? Because it's there I guess. I have been operating a larger G scale layout, indoors and out, with four engines, and about twenty cars, for two years. Very little need for more. So go for it!!!
