I am using Walthers Code 83 on my mainline track. And using Walther's switches w/Tortoise Switch machines for the mainline also.
I am modeling a layout using Great Eastern layout from the Atlas book and the Mechanic Street Yard for the yard portion of my layout. The Mechanic St. Yard is from Linn Westcott's 101 Track Plans book.
I was wondering if I should use the Walther's switches for my yard since they be used alot?
Should I use Peco or Micro-Engineering for the yard?
Any suggestions would help and be appreciated.

Wish I had an answer for you. Sounds as if we are about to build a similar layout. I am using the same plan but with a modified yard also. Would love to see a copy of your layout or point me toward a picture of your yard. Love to hear what you are doing with the north siding. I found a homepage who began modeling this and I will drop the link when I get home. It is sitting in my favorites on my home computer.

    Look forward to hearing more.

Hey Jai, I have thirteen Walthers turnouts in my yard and have not had a problem with them. I do use manual ground throws though so I don't know about the switch machines!! :D

Instead of using Tortoise switch machines in the yard, I'd be tempted to use Caboose Industries' ground throws intead, especially if you have a walkaround throttle and can easily reach the yard. Lots of Tortoises can get expensive in a hurry!

    Jai,

I think that Walther's turnouts are made by Shinohara. I put a couple of curved code 83's on my main line and they work fine. If you're going to go DCC you need to wire around the points a la Alan Gartner. I've done that with all my turnouts and it works much better. I also use tortoise machines as well so it's a fairly simple hook up.
    LOL
