Shot these two GP38s switching out the Sherman Wire plant in Sherman, TX the other day: Here's some broadside shots: Both are owned by Locomotive Leasing Partners (LLPX), and are leased to DGNO. Matter of fact, it's RailAmerica's policy to lease all of its motive power, mostly from LLPX. Not sure of the ancestry, but both look like paper air filters were added later on in their lives. RA's favorite scheme seems to be red and light gray, thankfully not the butterscotch colors seen here.
I'm not sure about the financial interest, but LLPX leases a boatload of loccomotives to RA. CEFX is also involved- evidence to this includes the ex-SP SD45s and SD45T-2s seen on DGNO and Kyle.
Never seen anything like that colour before. Is it a primer of some sort, or a mix of left-over paint?
Espee had "armor yellow" that was possibly a primer. Looked sort of like that. You could see individual panels painted with it.
Looks to me like it IS primer- the lessors got pure-dee lazy and just slapped reporting marks & numbers over the primer coat. But somehow, in the era of "rent-a-wreck" locomotive paint "schemes", this fits in just fine. After all, paint don't haul tonnage.
it's different, and get it out earning revenuea dn save money on paint..... out for a quitck buck, sounds like the PU!! sorry for the jab uncle petey fans, i just couldn't help myself beast
As Bob says, paint don't haul tonnage! When we were over in '98 we saw several C44's which BNSF needed out at work so they were sent out in primer. Some were painted, but without the logos and striping. 'Primer' paint scheme would make an easy model
