Should I buy this program or use the money to buy a new loco or more cars for my layout? I've read the review from MR and it really was disapointing Thanks! Rob
Talk about a loaded question . I think a lot of it has to do with what you enjoy doing, how computer savy you are and what kind of system you have. For MSTS to operate properly, you need a lot of memory and a good video card with the latest drivers.
well I cannot give it a full smiley face since I started playing it today. It runs fine on my old AMD k6-2/333 w/voodoo 3 card. It is also hard on some levels. Only wished for more US RR and locos. maybe next time. Do I regret buying it--nah. Would I have bought it if I was not into trains & model RR?--probably not. Should I have bought a nice loco or some rolling stock or something for the work bench or structures?--maybe, too early to tell. It is realistic in depictions of ops of rr though, in my humble opinion. jai Of course, this is only my opinion, based on 1 day of gameplay. [ 20 September 2001: Message edited by: jaijef ]</p>
I don't find the program really to bad. It just takes up alot of space in the computer. I hope Microsoft expands on this by adding more locomotives and things but if they add to much more it will cram the computer. My computer has slowed down when I installed the program. 1700kb is the program itself. I am going to have to add more hard drive space to compensate when I get my internet connection hooked up. Outsides that I think it is a good program if you are into running trains and doing switching manuvers. Mine keeps me busy for hours on end.
Hey Guys!! Thanks for your replies! I think the program should be ok...I had just dreamed of a state of the art program...but having a few flight simulators from Microsoft....I should know better... Anyways, I will add it to my birthday wish list or Xmas list for some one to buy it for me PC hardware issues is not a problem for me. I have a new Gateway and it comes with plenty of HD space, video capabilities and I just recently upgraded the memory banks and in the next few days or so I will add more memory again... I guess a program like this is safer to "play" with than manuvering the real thing...even thought I would not turn down the opportunity to be in control of a DASH 9 or a SD90 in real life does anyone know of any leads where I may get away with this.... Rob
If you do get it, check to see if there is updated drivers for your video card. I bought a new card in April, did a check on the drivers, and found two updates.
