There's a great section on the Yreka Western that covers it's history, freight operations and steam excursion operations. I think you will enjoy it. You can find it at: http://www.northwestrails.com
Bill, that's quite an article. BTW, read today on Altamont Press that McCloud No. 18 blew a crown sheet drop plug in Burney Saturday. It wasn't due to low water, and I guess they just replaced it.
Fitz .. I had not heard of that event here yet .. when you say 'drop plug' I assume that you mean one of the soft plugs that are located on the top of the firebox (under the crown sheet)? We replace all of the soft plugs, (four of them) each season before we operate #19. Number 19 is currently having it's suspension rebuilt and most likely will not be back in service until sometime in early July. We're hoping to get her out by the 4th.
Bill, yeah, I "assumed" that too. Just quoting directly from the post on Altamont. That could sure ruin your steaming day. I guess we should be thankful that there is so much running here in the west this year.
For anyone who might be interested, I am just about done with the new Yreka Western RR's webpage. Just have some photos to add and a couple of more informational items. The most important are the photographs. I should have them in sometime after Christmas. Take a look and see ... tell me if you like the layout or not and any suggestions to improve the site will be greatly appreciated.
