John... NICE! Actually... I'm not a CSX fan. Plus... Gerd already has all my money for current and future projects. Alex
It appears any kind of flat rusty dirty black will do. Use the same color for the fuel tank. Get a picture of some real units in operation and use that as a reference. Plows & fuel tanks get dirty & rusty easily. There may even be some bare metal on the plow edge. I'm thankful the model is finally on the market. About the time I get around to repainting, Joe will make one for Milw, Rock Island, etc. I hope a pair will easily pull a 50 state car set!
Thanks Rob (A). I don't know what labor feels like, but this whole process with the chassis must be close to it! Painting the lower decks adds 4-6 new complicated masks and the cost for those is significant. Folks wouldn't just pay a little more, the price would have gone way over $200.00. My stand has always been to keep this the same price as the GP-35. Afordability was in the fore-front of my mind here...I know you wrestle with that all the time. As for the tank and the plow..that should have been black and I will see where we dropped the ball on that one. We had to paint them...blue is just as expensive as black ) Joe .
Well said Joe, and because of the price point I'll be buying a few of these locos and not just one. Just waiting for CN and CP to be released. Thanks Joe and Microtrains. Bob
Joe, I knew the reason why they were painted like that, but its something I can fix. Like Bob said, I rather have the lower price.
They'll be posted Once I can get a picture of them. Have to track down the units and then get the pictures.
Be nice. Remember CSX & NS have to play nice at the Oak Island depot in New Jersey since they both control Conrail now.:mcool:
Great news, about finally the availability of this loco! But for the first time I won't be a launch customer of a new Z scale model as now I'm waiting for western (or Mexican!) roads. But for western roads (BNSF/BN/ATSF/UP) I know I won't have long to wait..... Dom
Yes. I think what we are trying to do with the Canadian roads is to do two contemporary schemes if possible. We are working on them tomorow, hopefully I will have a better feel for what we can do... Joe
Joe D' Do you think Seaboard System SD40-2 is a future possibillity? Also for anyone who is fairly experienced in DCC (I have limited experience), I ordered some TCS-MZA4 decoders for my SD40-2's. I MAY attempt to install ditch lights and a beacon light to one of my CSX YN2 schemes. My question is, will this 4 function decoder support the standard lights on the loco and both the ditch lights and beacon light? (It's my understanding that I may have to install ditch light and beacon simulator boards as well, is this a correct assumption?)
Joe, the decoder will support what you plan to do, but it doesnt have enought function to all of them. If you do the front and back lights. Thats two function. The ditch lights are another two function for a total of four. What I do is not light the rear lights, and use that function to do the beacon lights. Also, you need to add resistors tho funtion 3 and four because the voltage is higher then the voltage of the leds. It will burn them if you dont add the resistors. you dont have to add resistors to function 1 and two because they are build into the board.
