Those tanks look real good! In fact I don’t think anyone makes them anymore in Z so they are much needed. So did they have the spouts or is there stand pipes for them?
Clyde, Excellent! Very nice in deed. Nice paint and weathering work! Like the two sheds as well. The water level board is a nice detail. Scott
Thanks! I’m happy how they came out. The tanks did not have spouts, there was at one time stand pipes. Since I’m modeling in the 1970’s of the Western Pacific, they had removed the stand pipes, but left the twin tanks in place.
Kev, same happened with my GP38 (GP40-2) . I have replaced rhe complete chassis via AZL direct. Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-A528B met Tapatalk
The local train club's traveling Z layout has traveled to my living room to start a major makeover. Out with the third-hand Marklin track on bare wood, in with foam and Rokuhan track. The salvageable Marklin track will find a new home as industrial sidings in the middle of the loop. Next up, adding some elevation changes to the inner loop.
I like that track plan. Simple yet effective yo run two trains at once have one on siding and to crossover. What’s the plan Industrial buildings inside? Or rural?
Thanks! The working plan is to focus on having two mainline loops that tunnel under a mountain scene on the left, and some switching/point-to-point scenes in the town to the right: It's not the most elegant track plan ever devised, but it shows off the ability of Z scale to fit a diverse mix of trains and scenery into a space that makes my N-scale heart jealous, while still making the most of the club's existing benchwork and track. And budget.
I started and finished a new project today. When I saw that AZL released Triple Crown trailers I decided I had to try something that I have always wanted to try. I have finished a road railer set. A road railer is a set of cargo trailers that rides only on railroad freight trucks. There is no spine car or well car to carry them ... just the freight trucks. My version is far from perfect, but it functions. I still want to add handrails to the end platforms, and I might need to add weight to the trailers to get them to track better.
As requested: The truck is a standard Micro Trains Roller Bearing truck without coupler. There is a styrene spacer to hold the bolster pin for the truck and a piece of Plastruct glued to that to hold the trailers. I drilled holes at the front and rear of the chassis of the trailers to accept MTL bolster pins. They go through holes in the Plastruct strip so that the trailers can negotiate curves. The trailers should be closer. The bumper at the rear of the trailer gets in the way of the trucks unless I raise the trailers more. The wheels of the trailers are supposed to be just above the rails. I added metal wheels to the trucks for more weight and better tracking.
