Another not so well seen caboose. This is Canadian Pacific steel center cupola caboose. Not sure if this came after or before the more popular offset cupola steel caboose.........
Here is this weeks project. I got this Revell Model which has been released in many forms, and is N Scale. I will use it on the new layout at the docks as A small freighter. Mike
Me either and there are VERY FEW !!!! I got a deal on this kit as it is semi vintage. The vintage versions sell as high as 95.00. Thanks , Mike
From the scrap box and parts bin. Took some old Bmann underframes from out of the parts box where they had been laying for years and decided to make some bulhead flats. So I first removed the bulky weight which was too high profile and pulled out some MDC weights from the parts bin. Also decided to use some MT stirrup steps for this project. Sides are from .040 styrene and deck is from .040 HO car siding. Bulkheads are from the same HO car siding and styrene. Ladders and end brake wheel post are from Pecision Masters Kit #1200. Shot of brake end.
From the scrap box #2 Bottom shot shows how I ACC'd the MT stirrups. No grab irons since I used the ladder stock at all four corners and the ends. The white styrene is some .015 strip styrene to make a coupler pad for body mount 1015s. Fairly good weight on the cars empty and I will use some old metal wheelsets saved from MT conversions with the rapido pockets cut off. Painting the deck now and these cars will represent home built cars for the Turtle Creek Railway branchline.
From the scrap box cont. Mounted the trucks and couplers tonight. Had some fun getting the couplers shimmed to the right heigth, and got the first coat of paint on the deck and inside the bulkheads. The fishbelly flat in the rear was one in the scrapbox needing repairs so it was included with these. Cars will be lettered for Turtle Creek and will be in captive service hauling ties. Turtle Creek motive power is in the rear, old Concor cow and calf. The other is the assorted remains of some SW 1200s that I had enough of left from projects to assemble another calf unit.
Been away from the bench too long due to some personal and medical issues; but have gotten back.... built a 81' Humberline trestle and seesm to have worked well...........
A bit of a last minute rushed job that turned out OK I chopped up some Evergreen H Channel to length Airbrushed it a mix of Floquil Light Blue / SP Dark Gray & touched the ends with some rust paint / chalks Cut some scale strip wood as battens & used EZ line to represent banding Light weathering & I had one less empty Bulkhead Flat
Hello Bill, how did you do the black line between the orange and the maroon? It looks truly great!! Cheers Dirk
Finished the bulhead flat project with all parts from the scrapbox or onhand styrene stock. Dullcoat tomorrow and then make rail tie loads from a bag of N scale wood ties I've had around awhile. Had some old Bmann wood passenger cars that were kitbashed awhile back. That left me with the underframes for a few. Cut off platform and steps, removed weights and trimmed weight tabs flush with frame. That leaves me with a 39 ft underframe to build on. So either some Nn3 or N logging flats. The underframes on these cars are only 8 foot wide so the thought of maybe Nn3 is floating around.
Summit begins and this is the start of my FIRST true full layout in a finished basement. Cajon pass should be fun to build! Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Dirk, The black stripes are 1 inch Micro-Scale decal stripes. Not my favorite part of the project but a definate necessary evil.
Started making wood tie loads for the flats from a big package of N scale wood ties in my parts bin. Yup real wood not plastic and being assembled one at a time with scenic glue. Creosote was done by adding some black paint to a little bit of old brush wash and stirring them around in it.
Those are looking great John! Hmm, you could probably use a Telescoping Boom Forklift to get those loads onto the flat cars...
Light weathering + graffiti... comments? Paint is still wet... will weather/dullcote after it dries. Wouldn't it be a hoot if I could sell on ebay a freight car with my name as a tag on it?
