Me too! There is a place on their website where you can suggest a model: http://katousa.com/suggest.html I've already submitted this suggestion and encouraged a few friends to do likewise. If we have enough people do this, it could definitely happen. I've talked to Kato before and they love Amtrak (two of the guys there model it and have been able to push a lot of what we have seen recently) and work hard to get the Japan offices to produce Amtrak stuff. Amtrak fans unite! Chris
First thing I thought when I saw that picture was "Kato is going make that" moreover if you look at Kato's website you see a banner celebration Amtrak's 40th anniversary I agree this looks alot better than the PHIII that was originality used on the P42's.
I love this heritage scheme, it's classic Amtrak. Too bad they won't repaint all the shamo units like this. When Kato runs this and I'd be surprised if they didn't, I'll have to have it.
There is to be three other engines to receive heritage schemes in honor of Amtrak's 40th Birthday. I would guess that the arrowless scheme would follow the same lines as this one while the Blunt arrow will be a good bit different. Hopefully they will be around long enough in these schemes to give Kato an incentive to do them.
As I am always the one suggesting mass write in's to manufacturers, I will certainly write and let them know, I too like this scheme, looks like they just added the black to the roof and nose of a Phase 3 ? fatalxsunrider43
No it's completely different then the phIII originaly used on the P42's. This is more of an adaptation of the phIII that was applied to the F40PH.

Kato did a set of four EF58 Japanese locos for their 40th anniversary that came in their bookshelf slipcase. I'd live to see them do the same with the 4 Amtrak heritage locos. Either way, I'm pretty sure they'll do the Amtrak Heritage schemes.
Agreed! Funny, look at the silver/black paint division at the front- it's almost in the silhouette of an F40PH!
Wow, that's the best paint scheme by far for that locomotive (and Amtrak's best also). They should paint them all like that. But then I also think BNSF should paint all of their locomotives in Red & Silver Warbonnet w/ "Santa Fe" on the flanks . . . .
There are now two more units repainted, 822 also being painted in the Phase III scheme released a couple days ago and 156 photographed today in the Phase I scheme... http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2437821 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=357124 Wonder if we'll yet see a "Pepsi can" revival?
I prefer the blue & yellow myself, but that BNSF orange is pretty hideous, so anything would be an improvement. Even the BN executive scheme would have looked good. As far as Amtrak goes, never been a big fan of their color schemes, though I guess Phase IV would get my vote for the least boring. Phase III is too generic, and Phase V just looks weird... Probably why I haven't really bothered to model Amtrak, I'd rather run older streamliners on a modern layout. The P42 is certainly an attractive loco, I'm not opposed to modeling it, I've just never been that excited about any of Amtrak's Phases.
Kato will do this, there is a hint on there latest e-mail, similar to the way the hints to GEVO's before they were announced.
Jerry, I've heard from two different sources that they are suppose to repaint one of the P32s into the Pepsi scheme! I can't wait! Chris
