Wow, for the second time in 6 months I lost out on an Overland N Santa Fe GP-60B.

I am about as flustered as a guy can get. Will I ever be able to secure one ? Darn,

this is frustrating. Knowing that FVM is going to have them out in about a year

makes it a little easier, but I still want a Brass one. Is there anyone, anyone in this

WHOLE WIDE WORLD that can supply such ? Come on guys !!!! Someones gotta

    have one they'll part with......PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ

It amazes me how much certain models bring on EBay, at Shows, etc. The GP60B is one of those and I think its due to a very small run of them.

Yeah I know, FVM is going to be easier, I plan to buy 8 of each, maybe even buy an extra B unit to stir my morning coffee with EVERYDAY DARN DAY. Man I have waited for these for SO long. But at this moment, I am in PAIN, losing the Brass one is just too much. LOL sorta ....

The sad part is the brass one may not run as well as the FVM one and then you'll be stuck with it cause everyone will want the FVM and no brass. So, maybe it's a sign for you to wait a little longer..

Well, for brass units, the GP59/GP60/GP60M/GP60B run was one of the best Overland has done and they run great....even with a 3 pole motor....which is another reason they go for so much.

I lost out on an Overland GP60M in BNSF warbonnet last month, i was shocked that it sold for only $200. I don't really want a brass one that much but for that price it sounded good and building one from a resin shell is a lot of work. Now that FVM is doing them I'm more then excited! I'm ready for my Super Fleet!

Why is it that in this big world of ours, an old codger like myself has to be heartbroken like this because Overland will not help me out. I am sure to re-issue these is not that big a deal to them, they would sell out without any problem. Yes, I am thrilled that FVM is going to release next year. But, having the Overland GP-60M
is useless unless you have the B Unit to go with it. After losing the auction last nite, I paced back and forth with no sleep until about 5 AM at which time I just gave out.
And this morning, here I am still trying to find some relief by writing to Overland, trying other shops. I just cannot believe that it is this difficult, this painful this dissappointing to find one N scale Brass train. When you have your hobby at heart like I do, it really makes for inner turmoil to have been shot down twice knowing it was within reach. I have been ready for my SuperFleet since the real locomotives were introduced back in the early 90's. I have had this issue in the front of my mind, 24 hours a day, and now 17 years later, I am still struggling with it. Lord have mercy on me.

You are just going to have to bid $1000. If you've been waiting for this engine for 17 years the fund for it should be at least that high. The key to any action is to be the high bidder. By trying to get it by low balling it you will never win.

I wanted an El Capitan Hi-Level train. First I found out that no one mass produced it. Then I found out 100 sets were produced in brass. When they came up for bid on eBay the price for the five car set was around $1200. Five years later no winner paid less than $1000. Single cars were going at up to $350.

Then Look Models offered a new version in etched stainless steel. The price would be $150 per car. A new car would be issued every month. Oh Joy! Affordable and new, these cars turned out better that the Hallmarks. Interiors, Glass , Couplers and decals applied and arriving at my door. One problem, no baggage/dorm car. Someday they would come. A year later, someday never came.

Then this guy in Italy put his homemade set up for bid. It had a baggage/dorm that was passable. Finally I had some semblance of the Hi-Level train. Then Athearn released the FP45s.

    It's done! It is complete!

Then Kato puts out the Santa Fe El Capitan set out. Finally a correct baggage/dorm car.

Now the NGI Coach car kits are coming out of the wood work.

So, here's my point. Shell out the cash, accept a substitute or wait for it to be mass produced. Worrying about it, is useless.

Give it until FVM releases theirs. If they are well-detailed and run pretty good the Overland prices will drop. I understand that prices for brass GS-4s dropped when Kato released theirs, and Con-cor GS-4s dropped in price soon after.

I have been reading this post and frankly, if you are up until 5AM worrying about getting one of these, I think the hobby has become an obsession. If you had already been outbid on one, why not put in a substantially higher bid for the next one. You could try using a sniping software as well. You have to decide on how much you are willing to pay for one and bid that amount. if I had a B unit for sale for $500, would you buy it?

As someone already said, these could have been produced in very small numbers and the chances of them coming up on eBay are slim to start with. The last two probably surfaced after the FVM announcement and those holding these are dumping them so they can buy four of the FVM units for the same price when they are released. I can guarantee you that Overland will never rerun these now, especially since the FVM announcements. There is absolutely no reason to and I think they would have a hard time selling them. Look at the OMI SD70ACE units in the Heritage schemes. One of those cost as much as all 7 of the Kato units. People were desperate to dump the OMI ones when Kato announced theirs. Unless you are a BRASS collector, there is no reason to have the brass ones because for the most part, todays plastic units are as detailed and run better than the brass (always exceptions to that rule).

Dave ! I have always dove into anything I do with both feet, but yes you are probably right, I have obsessed over this dang thing for along time. Although your
words are humbling to me, it is time to maybe throw in the towel on this. I suppose if it come it comes, if not, then FVM. I would then have to sell the two OMI Brass
M's I have now. So much for being devoted and unwilling to quit.

fatal, if it were me, I would absolutely be selling them now. I believe the value of the brass ones will drop some (could be a little or a lot) as the plastic one are released and especially if the plastic ones are good in detail and running quality. Say it is a year from now are you are ready to buy an ABA set of GP60s and are of average means (as I believe most of us are); are you going to plunk down $225 for a set of FVM ones or $700 for a set of OMI ones??? If you have the means to buy 16 new plastic ones and hold onto the brass ones, then you should do what makes you happy. Obviously, these are your dream engines so maybe you should hold on to them until the plastic ones are out. You never know, something drastic could happen to FVM (I certainly hope not) and they may not get produced. I remember a few years ago when the GP59s (mostly the EMD Demo ones) were going for like $75 a piece for whatever reason. I bought a couple and they ran fairly well, but I thought they were noisy and simply didn't compare to an Atlas or Kato in running quality. I wasn't try to humble you; I just think that sometimes we get caught in these trains, which in the end, are just things.

How does Overland stuff even run? How do they compare to, say, Atlas or Kato in the running dept? I've never owned any brass locos.

They run quite well. Not as smooth as Kato but comparable to Atlas. Can be slightly noisy but not bad. Very nice detail on the Overland stuff the paint is okay. Pad printed Santa Fe billboard
lettering had some voids on my GP60M but overall not too bad.
