Has anyone done a 5 pole motor swap on a Marklin 4-6-0, #8899?
I have checked Do It Yourself Z and Z Weekly, and have not found any specific
    info on the #8899 swap.
I removed the screws holding the motor in and loosened the bottom cover screw in front,
but can't seem to pull out the motor.
I realize the worm gear is still engaging the gear, but other than pushing out the pin holding the gear,
not sure how to remove motor.

    Thanks,
    Scott

You will also need to un-solder the 2 leads at the top of the motor. You should be able to see where they are soldered.

Thom is right the brass side contacts are soldered to the noise capacitor leads, Which run straight back through the top of the motor making contact with the brush springs you need to unsolder the capacitor to remove the motor.

Maybe this will help Marklin 8899 instructions.pdf

Copied from Do It yourself in Z scale
"Reportedly, upgrading the motor on an 8899/88991 locomotive is quite a hassle. Chet says, "You actually have to unsolder the capacitor and after installing the new motor solder back again.""

I would skip the 5 pole and use a can motor. I think the E275145 motor will fit that one but i don't can't remember which shaft you need or if you can just modify the stock one to fit.

    Thom,
    Thanks!
I swapped the motors on a 2-6-4, and it was pretty straight forward, if not a bit finicky.
On the 2-6-4 I did not have to unsolder anything. I will have to unsolder a 4-6-4 I am swapping as well.
    David,
Thanks for the additional info. I am going to stick with the 5 pole only because I have a bunch from my dad's collection.
Plus when I put the 5 pole in the GN H4 4-6-2, it ran soooo much smoother and much more quiet.
I don't know if the RC-02 makes the difference or it's the 5 pole, but there is a noticeable difference from the three pole.:D
Also, last I heard there was a backlog for the can motors, still true?

Update, checked Z Scale Hobo, looks like Frank has them.

If I already had the 5 pole motors than I would defiantly go that rout too. As for a backlog of can motors I don't know, Haven't tried to buy any in a long while.
I took a page out of Robert Ray's play book and bought several extras back when they were available.

Swapped the motors on the 4-6-4 #8806 and 4-6-0 #8899 last night.
My soldering skills are somewhat rusty, so that was the most difficult part.
The 4-6-4 runs great, smooth and quiet. The 4-6-0 runs, but not so smooth or quiet!:(
I think there might be some gear issues.
    Anyway, thanks for the input.
