This week I took one of these... took the paint off.... Hacked about with a few details... And hey presto, ended up with one of these Jon
Andy, it did in fact take me 2 evenings to strip the paint - I stank the house out - the missus was none too pleased Jon
A quick & dirty conversion, with stellar results! Looks great! BTW, what the heck did you use to strip the paint? I assume this was a P2K model you started with.
Thanks Bob. Yes, it was a P2K GP9(phase 2). I stripped it with 'SuperStrip' by Phoenix Precision Paints (PS18) Phoenix paints It's good stuff - I brushed it on, wiped off the liquid paint, then did it again and again, washing the model every now and again in soapy water. Nice work, Jon - gotta love thos P2k Geeps! I've got a P2k GP20 currently in my modeling rotation, in the process of becoming an SSW GP20E. Hard stuff is done, now it's on to adding the details. BTW, another thing that works great for stripping P2k paint is 91% isopropyl alcohol, which you can get at just about any drugstore. Just drop the shell into a sealed container of the stuff (I like using large Ziploc freezer bags), and let it sit for an hour or two. The paint will lift right off, and should only need a little light toothbrush scrubbing to get paint out of the nooks and crannies.
I've stripped N scale LifeLike shells with 91% isopropyl, and it worked great. Plus, odor is not an issue. Here in the States, I can get it for about 89 cents or so at my local Wal*Mart store.
Sounds like a good way to strip paint. I wonder if we can get it here in the UK (probably called something else, here)
Alan, it's 'Servisol' and is available from Maplins, amongst others. I recently got a large tin of the stuff for about a tenner - somewhat more than our American friends pay. Jon
