Thought it might be neat to start a free fourm Alco topic for 2007. Anything Alco is game. Steam, diesel, or what ever. First up: Shot this unit in Scranton PA (near Steamtown) on 12/9/06
I like the idea. I like Alco's. I have an old issue of "Trains" with a great Alco story from a retired L&N engineer about the love/hate relationship he had with the C-630's. Another about how the PA's were dubbed "honorary steam engines" because of the black smoke they belched. Doc
Hi, my name is Steve, and I'm an alco-haulic. Sorry, old joke I know... GCRX 6793 is an ex-CNR FP4-A, the last unit built:
Here's a "one of a kind" being restored in Portland, OR, a PA-1. And, I must add at least one Alco steamer, one that runs often.
Classy Alco's The City of Prineville had some classy looking Alco S-1 locomotives. Alas the invader from EMD arrived in the form of some former Milwaukee home chopped GP-9's The photos are from January 1975
Am trying to remember- Did the COP keep any of their old ALCo switchers? Or get rid of all? Boxcab E50
All three of the Alco S-1's were sold off. I think a couple of them are still around for new owners. The City of Prineville Ry. bought two Ex Milwaukee Road GP-9's that had been chop nosed by the Milw. A Ex BN/GN GP-9 was purchaced sometime later. I don't have photos of the EMD's but check "High Desert Rails" there are photos there.
