This is a very big, and yet small at the same time question. Can some one give me fairly detailed information about the new Cascade Talgo Train sets? I have been looking on line but found NO good evidence about them. Not only that, what I have found contridicts each other! LOL THANKS IN ADVANCE Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
I think Trainweb.com has some good info (360x360 immersion pics, regular pics, trip reports, etc.) on the stuff. Just go to www.trainweb.com and click on "rail photos" or "rail travel." --AO <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by BC Rail King: This is a very big, and yet small at the same time question. Geez BC I was hoping Charlie wouldn't move this so I wouldn't have to deal with it. I'll see what I can dig up from my end too. From my veiw and listening to the other guys who run them. They are not holding up to well. About the only people who know anything about them are the Talgo people themselves. Just in the last week one of the consists was riding real bad. One of the cars not whole train. When the conductor said something to the Talgo person about it. He was told Who are you to tell us about our equipment and said nothing was wrong. Well the train made the return trip to Sea and came back but was then B/Oed and the passengers had to be bused. Since then the consit has been running short a car. Even though we work the train there has been almost zilich in the way of classes to teach the employees anything about the trains. I would hope the State of Wash. has learned a lesson and will do a better job at picking equipement next time.
He He He, They do look great speeding across the land, I know there are quite a few people tyhat dis like them, I love them!!!!! Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
Have you road one? The seats aren't as comfortable in my opinion. The windows are not the same as other Amtrak type II windows they will shatter on being rocked. they will hold together not like the demo ones. They are very quiet almost ran over some signal maintainers we didn't see with their backs to us once, had a cab car in the lead. They are a nice change of pace but I don't want to be riding when the first one gets T-boned by a truck or a car.
They got da look going on! But you are right, When one of those things gets T-Boned the passengers are screwed! I found that the seats were not bad, better than the West Coast Express in my opion, but I have a high back pain tollerance. I will be on a set for a distance longer that 40 miles in a couple months, or whenever they get a Van-Sea-Van train running. Currently A set goes Sea-Van-Sea, and B goes Bel(?)-Sea-Bell. Dane, I tried again to find some info on our talgo equipment and there is none to be had. It is really sad the people working these trains don't have anything on them. The Talgo represenitive that rides the trains know next to nothing. Just enough to get them going and pray there is no problem. One conductor I work with said he had a manual he had gotten hold of but it was more or less for the mechanical forces to do work. He gave the book to some Scottish delagate who was riding the train and begged to have it. Some employees like them some don't they say it takes over 8hrs to break a set apart to do work. Sorry again but if I ever come across something I'll try for ya.
Thanks for the help Throttle Jack! I found a great source of information, and may present the question to him. There is a baggage handler with Vai Rail Canada that has been with them for like 22 years of something, and he seems to be a well of information! If he knows anything I will share it with you! Thanx again Happy Railroading! Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@Canada.com for TAMR info. To send a general TRAIN! E-Mail send to BCRailKing@Canada.com
I've ridden the Cascade Talgos several times, the latest trip about a year ago round trip Seattle-Vancouver. I was not all that impressed, they look great but the ride & seat comfort leaves something to be desired. Reggie
