I have 4 locations on my layout ware i will need to use auto reverse. what would be my best choice between the AR1 or a PM42 aside from the cost whats the advantages of one over the other. The AR-1 seems pretty simple, is their a downside to that? because simple is better

I have 2 AR1's on my layout. I like them because they do not require any additional power supply and can be located at the location they are needed.

The Ar-1 is the simple one to use But the PM42 has (programming options) that the AR doesn't and the 42 can be fine tunned to get the results you want.HOWEVER the 42 can be a real bear to program without a computer (30-45 min manually 1-3min with a computer using JMRI loco-net and a USB-2 locobuffer interface. I also know that the AR-1 is DCC only and the 42 can be DC and DCC so they say. (check it out). I have both and there great. if you use the 42 you can use small gage wire from the card plug to a terminal strip keeping the leads as short as possible without a negative result then tie in the 14 or 12 gadge wire from there to the track.. take care best of luck Alan C.
