I'm curious if anyone has built Atlas' Berkshire Valley Route from the book King Size Plan Book. I know it's an old book (mine's from 1972!). It's really a glorified double track figure eight with a cutoff and yard for out and back running, in a 4'x12' in HO. If anyone has, did you like it and how long did you keep it?
I'm thinking of building it on a 3 or 3 1/2 ft x 6 ft in N, with broader curves (maybe) and a few more yard tracks. I'm going to use Kato Unitrack for it since it's so easy to work with and it's been years since I've built a layout.
I was originally thinking of building Model Railroader's Red Wing Division in N, but the scenic limitations of a flat layout would drive me batty over the long haul.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    John:

That plan should be easy to modify for the Kato Unitrack.

I find that HO track plans are easily converted over to the Unitrack. If you need odd sized track pieces, you can cut them with a razor saw.

Chuck will keep you supplied with all the track you need.

    Have fun.

    Thanks, Bob.
I've been doodling around with the Kato Track Planning template just to see what can be done. I think I can fit what I want into the space I have available, maybe by using different parts of different plans that I like.
BTW, the other night, I left a train running all night long. It was so quiet that I didn't even remember it being on. I woke up and it was still going. I was really surprised that my cat didn't attack it! And, it wasn't even warm...
