I've seen the demo for the Atlas S-2 with sound on U Tube but can't find any information on it on the Atlas site. Has anyone seen any information on this or when it will be available? Lloyd.

Probably not. Atlas stuff goes directly by water to the East Coast. Makes sense since Atlas is in New Jersey and that West Coast ports have been jammed up for several years now. The container ships stuck outside Long Beach, for example, normally go back across the Pacific. Blame dockworkers all you like but that's only part of the problem at west coast ports. The ports have been congested on and off for years, now made much worse by the poor ability to handle the supersize ships. While unloading is quick generally, remaining cargo must be properly shifted to keep from capsizing, for one. Often enough, a container from a specific shipping company must go on that company's bogie sometimes with a long search needed to find one if one is actually available. Containers must clear customs and homeland security. And so on and so forth. The recent photos shown of a huge bullpen of trucks waiting to be loaded is misleading -- that's normal since a container can be offloaded from a ship in less than a minute.
We've (myself included) been throwing a lot of delivery issues in the port issue. Thanks for thr perspective. I know the site id about trains, but we go down these paths sometimes. Its inevitable, that we do and I think it adds to the forum.
Well, I was not pointing any fingers or blaming. My simply wondering 'what if' is quite different. Very, very few readers will know the exact routing of any one container to a specific consignee.
It has been reported on either Trainboard or the former Atlas Forum that shipments are received on the east coast. It has been a long time since that was reported by someone who ultimately became a high ranking official of that manufacturer... so its hard to say if that is their current MO.
Actually, this was confirmed by Paul Graf Atlas' CEO, on February 18 of this year. See the following thread: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?161168-Any-News-on-Atlas-Alco-S2/page2 John C.
LOL... I had not seen that post. I was remembering the past posts where similar questions were asked for other Atlas products.
Paul Graf of Atlas has been very much customer oriented as long as I have followed him here or elsewhere. I think this is the type of CEO other model railroad companies need. The industry lacks open communication with the customer base.
