I am looking at using a SD60 for a GN kitbash and was wondering if anyone can look at one of their Atlas N SD60's? I am assuming the number boards are attached to the frame and not the shell? Does it look like it is removeable or does it look it would cause some major damage trying to remove it? Trying to figure out if I can easily pop out the number boards or if I would have to go the route of applying some sort of decals to cover them for new road numbers.
Here's a link to Atlas's parts page with exploded views of all four types of SD50's and SD60's https://shop.atlasrr.com/c-904-pn70.aspx
Thank you! I was looking for something just like that but my keyboard search skills are lacking compared to yours.
As you can see, the number boards are integral with the headlight......... I have an undecorated shell, and they literally fall out. Not sure if the decorated ones are stuck in better, but you can usually pop out that style with a toothpick pushing from the outside. They are smooth, so you can paint over the existing number.
Thank you Dave! I picked up a 3d printed SDP45 shell and can't wait to see it running around the track.
LOL .... yep. I had a second hand Atlas SD60 arrive yesterday and no prizes for guessing what was missing ........ I was aware of the missing couplers. Its all good otherwise It will get test run tomorrow.
I haven't checked the availability of the parts from Atlas.......hopefully they have them. If not, I have resorted to using Micromark Kristal Clear to fill the holes. It works great on the headlights, and OK on the number boards........it sometimes wants to dish (higher where it touches the shell, lower in the middle) but usually the numbers still go on OK since they are not near the edges.
Don’t forget to give it a gentle shake. The numberboard/headlight piece could be rattling around inside there if it got pushed inward!
Yeah I did ....... even removed the body. Atlas seems to be out of stock with these lights and lenses. The headlights can also be replaced with 1mm fibre optic.
