A spirited discussion was had on another mrr forum about replacement metal wheelsets. If the replacement axle is too short to fit between a kit's truck sideframes, it may cause the axle to wobble or fall out. A modeler noted the following replacement axle lengths for 33" metal wheelsets: Proto 2000 = 1.008" Intermountain = 1.013" Kadee = 1.018" A cross-reference to Reboxx website will tell you what axle length is to be used per kit manufacturer. (Accuracy?) I do not choose to use the narrower wheel width on the Reboxx wheelsets. Does anyone know the axle length on the Jay-Bee wheelsets? It would be great to have some sort of chart. Cheers, Glenn
I can understand your reluctance towards the Reboxx wheelsets. I was that way at first, until I read that they were quite close to correct scale width for wheels. I have 10 cars equipped with Reboxx wheels running on both code 83 and 100 track, with no problems. The Reboxx wheels, plus the addition of scale-size Kadee number 58s, really help the looks of a car. Currently I'm using a mix of LBF, Proto2000, and Reboxx metal wheelsets, in addition to the many cars that still have plastic wheels. No troubles to report, and they run and sound real nice.
