I've found it is better to call bmann customer service. I've emailed and it takes forever. Give them a call and I imagine they will exchange or repair. The are pretty good about that.

I wouldn't spent too much time on this engine. It would be a whole lot better to replace this engine completely with a NEW engine. There are a lot better running covered wagons available now, KATO, LifeLike, and others. Newer better looking, better running and comparable prices.

I'd just send it back to Bachmann. The only time I've ever burnt out a motor in normal usage is when something else is wrong with the loco--in the F7's case, probably a cracked gear on an axle. I haven't heard of motor burnouts in this unit.

Now, I've burnt out a few motors from abnormal usage, but that's another topic.

With today's fleet of F-units, the Bachmann's are only so-so. I've come to the opinion that, over time, all the gears will eventually crack--and it only takes one to make a unit a horrible performer, if it performs at all. I started out with eight of them and, over time and much running, went down to five due to cracked gears.

    Agreed, agreed, agreed.

The locomotive in question is at the bottom of the heap for quality. You'd be better off to write it off... as a lesson learned and purchase one of the newer Kato, Intermountain and or Micro Trains.

Should you still have problems getting a replacement please get back to me. I can send you more Bachmann headaches. I suckered for many of their units. So, give me a holler... if all else fails OR if you have a sentimental reason for wanting to keep this boggie going. Send me a private message.

    Have fun!
