My friend just got a Y6B (H0) with paragon 2 sound decoder which runs fine but JMRI cannot detect the decoder and if we program it blind it seems to forget its settings and only remembers it new road number.
rereads of the cvs produces different results every time.
    Any ideas ?

What DCC system are you using? Are you trying to detect using a programming track? You cannot use "Program on the Main" for decoder detection.

HI, I use a NCE powercab and my friend (N-Jineer) tried his powerhouse pro. Program track mainly but used POM to try writing at the higher power level, no readback on that obviously.

NCE PowerCab on the programming track.

We've just found a BLI tech video on YouTube which shows there is a hard reset button on the Paragon 2 steam decoder. Will have to open up the tender and take a look....

I have had to resort to the reset switch, too, when things weren't going correctly. But try the CV8=8 reset, too. Sometimes that is all it takes.

As it's 11:15 PM here in the UK, I'll check back in the morning, all suggestions appreciated.

I have 2 of the n scale M1's with Paragon 2 decoders . I also have NCE PowerCab . Yea the decoders are a bit flaky . But I was able to program them both without too much trouble . At the time I didn't have JMRI so I did all the programming through the PowerCab It programmed fine that way , although I did get some odd problems . I'd try to just do the programming through the NCE system . Eventually I got tired of the odd problems and sent the locos to Woodone in AZ to get Tsunami 2 decoders in them . I'm very happy with them now !
