We did something quite similar, although I think Mike's corn looks more accurate. Jeanne planted each individual stalk on a PC project board--she said it was more work than planting the real thing. And there is a cow in the corn--Little Boy Blue is a ways out of the picture.

    Mike,
That's what I was thinking, but I couldn't really tell from the picture. My wife has an old one of those she was thinking about throwing out........ :D Thanks!

    Mike-

It depends on your goals. If it is close up photography (on one end of the spectrum) then make the stalks green and greenish yellow and paint in the cornlings, or whatever they are called. If it is something that looks perfect to the naked eye, keep doing what you are doing. Just be happy in what you are doing and do it for yourself.

Urban Man strikes again! [IMG] [IMG]

Are not cornlings called ears? [IMG]

Mark, what color should he paint the cornlings--yellow? [IMG] I think cornlings come in husks, which are the same color as the stalk.

You and I have to meet in Iowa sometime, where some farmer will discuss the difference between 32/13 and 24/11 corn (figures made up), and how he determines watering needs by an aircraft fitted with a hyperspectral imager (like those we used in Afghanistan and Iraq for other purposes.)

I laughed with your post until I was in tears!

Mike: Your fall-colored corn gives me the perfect idea for my layout, which is set in autumn. I've seen enough green corn stalks but have been wondering how I could model dried stalks with corn waiting to be picked and rows of corn stalks laying on the ground after picking the ears of corn. And the price can't be beat! I appreciate what you've done.

Corn around here usually starts drying down by the 1st of September. First frost usually occurs around the 25th. By that time it has turned color. That is in a "normal" year.

That's a problem I've been searching for years! I have some of the etched brass, but this looks like the way to go. Thanks Mike!
