OK guy's here we go!!! Does anyone know of a curved code 83, 22" rad. turnout with an insulated frog???? I bought one from Walthers, their brand, and the frog wasn't insulated, all it did was to keep shorting the track out. I thought I could cut the rails apart to stop them from shorting. Guess what it didn't work. It now resides in the bottom of my garbage can. Any response will be helpfull! [IMG]

    Andy,
That could be a toughie, Walthers shows a Peco code 75 (??) insulfrog turnout, but doesn't show the radii. Could you get by with a code 100 turnout? Peco has a couple of different insulfrog code 100 curved turnouts listed at Walthers. You could get some of those transition joiners. Insulfrog turnouts are just what the say insulated frogs. I'm assuming you're using DCC? I have the same problem with my friends layout he bought the Walthers curved turnouts and it kept shorting I wasn't brave enough to try to gap them so they are going to Ebay and we're getting the insulfrogs.

    Good luck

No reason you can't use the powered frog. You need to gap the two inner rails coming off hte frog, you can use insulating rail joiners if you don't feel confident cutting gaps closer to the frog. You will need to power the frog thru a switch thrown by the turnout mech in order not to depend on the point rail contact.

Thanks guy's, I had a few moments at work today so I called Walthers about their new DCC freindly turnouts. It seems the new ones all have insulated frogs. They are code 83 and are a 24" rad., with a bit of fudging I think I can use it! [IMG]

    Guys:

Loy's Toys has the specifications and radius for the curved as well as the straight turnouts.

I use all hot frogs ( better for steam loco's) on my layout with the power to the points selected via the switch machine. And yes I cut the 2 rails to the frog.

So you cut the 2 inner rails apart to isolate them from each other?

How are you switching power with the switch machine? That sounds pretty neato and solvces a few questions I have regarding switches.
