    Hello everyone,

I am looking for some help on this new brass unit from Division Point. The KRAUSS-MAFFEI ML4000. Seems from the website the units have arrived. But looking at the photos of the model they produced and the proto on the same page of the website two big errors stick out. I hope I am wrong as I really was looking forward to these, but if these are really errors I can't see spending $1.200.00 for a mistake.

If any of you know if the model is accurate or have any information please chime in.

    First the model photo:

Now the proto from the same web page:

The two issues that stand out to me are

    1. the grabs on the nose are white on the model and red on the proto.
    2. the nose grabs are missing on the model where they are clearly on the proto.

Thanks in advance for any information.

A quick Google turns up a photo of 9000 with the white grabs, so that was correct at some time.
But the same pic also shows it with white front grabs ...

I'd drop Division Point a line to check if the photo you have is of a pre-production model, and pointing out the apparent discrepancy.

    Chad;

I wouldn't necessarily call these errors. Is the model depicting the loco in its as delivered state? Is it after a first shopping? Or is it at another stage in its time on the SP? I suspect that the model is depicting an "as delivered" scheme as opposed to "an in use for several years".

IIRC these locos spent almost as much time in the shops as they did on the road early in their service lives. Judging from the amount of dirt & grime on the loco in the prototype picture, its of a time much later in their lives where the shops have more than likely done more than paint the grabs on the cab and added the long ones by the nosedoor.

These locomotives were modified many times in their short lives.

If you want it to match that photo, the modification should be easy.

    Hello,

When the KM's were tested on the Semmering in Austria the grab-irons on the front of the nose were not installed.
Probably installation was done in the US.
I have a photo of the DRGW-version of DP (DP #5102) - it has those grabs.
So for the service on US-model-RR the grabs should be on the front.
as mentioned earlier - perhaps it's a preproduction sample with a mistake?
However, I would't like to install those irons on a painted, $1000+ RTR-brass-model.

    Regards
    Norman
