Some friends online have suggested the Digitrax DN163A0 would fit into an Atlas SD24 - but I'd like to make sure before I pay the cash for one. Does anyone have any definite answers?
You can also use the Train Control Systems (TCS) AMD4 in the Atlas SD24. This decoder eliminates the contact problems that the Digitrax DN163A0 has with Atlas diesels. Have fun...
Could you elaborate? I've used the TCS ASD4 in my GP7's and they're a bit 'whiny', but will happily pick one up if it's better?
Many times you'll have to hard wire the Digitrax DN163A0 to the motor contacts of an Atlas diesel to get it to work properly. The TCS decoder eliminates this problem. However, the choice is yours. Have fun....
This is corrected on the Digitrax decoder. Pass the motor contacts through the 2 slots in the decoder board and fold them over and there are no contact issues. No hard wiring needed. The digitrax decoder for the SD24 is the DN163A0. TCS makes a great decoder also for Atlas locos. They will be coming out with decoders for Kato in the coming months also.
As was said above this is not true anymore. The boards went through a revision when they went to ROHS standards and now have the pads as well as the slots for the motor tabs to be run up and through. I only have a few Atlas engines and when Digitrax did the revision changed all my engines to the new decoder for trouble free running.
